SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern

The pattern for Tier-1 consists of questions from the following 4 sections of academics-

Tier-1 implements a negative marking system of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer and 2 marks for each correct answer. The total number of questions is 100 and the time limit for the same is 60 minutes. The standard of questions here will be of (10+2) level.

SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern

The pattern for Tier 2 consists of 3 phases – Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3. Paper 1 is compulsory for all the Posts/Ranks while Paper 2 is compulsory only for Junior Statistical Officers and Paper 3 is compulsory only for the Post of Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Account Officers. And the timing for these Papers is given below – 

  • Paper 1 – Compulsory for all the Posts – Time allotted 2 hours 30 mins
  • Paper 2 – Junior Statistical Officers – Time allotted 2 hours
  • Paper 3 – Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Account Officers – Time allotted 2 hours

Tier 2 also implements a negative marking system, though, slightly different from the Tier-1 Exam. Here, a negative marking of 1 mark will be implemented for each wrong answer in all the sections of the Paper 1 exam. The other Paper 2 and Paper 3 will have 0.50 negative markings for each wrong answer. The total number of questions is 150 in Paper 1 and the time limit for the same is 2 hours 30 min for the four sections.

SSC CGL Tier 3 exam is a descriptive exam consisting of having to write essays, applications, letters, etc. The tier-3 exam is only attended by candidates interested in the positions of ‘Statistical Investigator Grade-II’ & ‘Compiler’. There is no specific syllabus, but candidates must brush up their writing skills in order to be able to present thoughts in an organized manner within 60 minutes.

SSC CGL Syllabus 2023 for Tier 4 Exam

SSC CGL Tier-4 stage tests the candidates’ typing and digital information presentation skills. It can be split into DEST and CPT.

  • DEST (Data Entry Speed Test): The candidate will have to type 2000 words from a given article within 15 minutes to further advance for the position of Tax Assistant (Central Excise and Income Tax).
  • CPT (Computer Proficiency Test): If interested in the positions of CSS, MEA, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), or Inspector (Examiner) the candidate will have to have expertise in spreadsheet management, word processing, and digital slides creation.
