SSC CGL Syllabus 2022
What is SSC CGL Exam?
SSC CGL is one of the Government Recruitment Exams administered by the Staff Selection Commission of India. The purpose of the exam is to recruit Group B and C officers to various positions in different ministries, departments, and organizations of the Government of India. Every year, around 10 Lakh graduates appear in the hopes of acing the exam and making it into the departmental ranks to serve the country, while the total number of applications usually crosses over the mark of 20 Lakh.
The Full Form of the SSC CGL Exam
The full form of SSC CGL is Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Exam.
More Info About the SSC CGL 2022-23 Exam
- Selection Process: It’s a Four-Tier examination. Tier-1 and Tier-2 are held online, while the remaining two are held offline. Tier-3 is a written descriptive exam and Tier-4 is a Computer Proficiency exam.
- Eligibility: Anyone with Indian citizenship and a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field can apply for SSC CGL 2022-23.
- Application Fee: The application fee has been INR 100, traditionally, with an exemption for Women, SC, ST, PwD, and ESM.
- Age Limit: In general, is 18 – 32. Though, it varies based on the position one applies for. Age relaxation is applicable for various categories, however.
- Age Relaxation: Reserved categories, physically handicapped candidates, ex-Serviceman. Central Government Civilian Employees (at least 3 years of regular service), Defense Personnel and Jammu & Kashmir Candidates.
- Tentative Vacancy: Official information has been released for SSC CGL 2022, And, the total tentative vacancies for SSC CGL 2021 – 2022 will be 20,000.
SSC CGL 2022-23 Exam Dates
SSC CGL 2022-23 Dates for Tier-1 are as follows:
- Date for Submission of Online Application: 17th Sep 2022 to 8th October 2022
- Tentative Schedule for Tier 1 Exam: December 2022
- Tentative Schedule for Tier 2 Exam: To be announced soon
This implies candidates interested in the SSC CGL 2022-23 will be able to apply from 17th September 2022 to 8th October 2022. The SSC CGL 2022-23 Tier-1 Exam will be held in the month of December 2022. It will be a Computer-based Exam (CBE).
Dates for the remaining Tiers are yet to be announced.
SSC CGL 2022 Pattern
Let’s take an in-depth look into the pattern of the SSC CGL 2022 exam as per the different tiers it consists of –

Tier-1 and Tier-2 are Computer Based Online Exam with an MCQ-type question paper. Tier-3 is a Pen and Paper mode descriptive exam, while Tier-4 is a skill-based exam that measures the candidates’ typing speed. There is a 0.50 Negative Marking in SSC CGL Exam, specifically, in the first two tiers which are Tier-1 and Tier-2. More information on this follows below.

SSC CGL 2022-23 Tier-1 Syllabus
The pattern for Tier-1 consists of questions from the following 4 sections of academics-

Tier-1 implements a negative marking system of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer and 2 marks for each correct answer. The total number of questions is 100 and the time limit for the same is 60 minutes. The standard of questions here will be of (10+2) level.

SSC CGL 2022-23 Tier-2 Syllabus
The pattern for Tier 2 consists of 3 phases – Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3. Paper 1 is compulsory for all the Posts/Ranks while Paper 2 is compulsory only for Junior Statistical Officers and Paper 3 is compulsory only for the Post of Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Account Officers. And the timing for these Papers is given below –
- Paper 1 – Compulsory for all the Posts – Time allotted 2 hours 30 mins
- Paper 2 – Junior Statistical Officers – Time allotted 2 hours
- Paper 3 – Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Account Officers – Time allotted 2 hours
Tier 2 also implements a negative marking system, though, slightly different from the Tier-1 Exam. Here, a negative marking of 1 mark will be implemented for each wrong answer in all the sections of the Paper 1 exam. The other Paper 2 and Paper 3 will have 0.50 negative markings for each wrong answer. The total number of questions is 150 in Paper 1 and the time limit for the same is 2 hours 30 min for the four sections.

SSC CGL 2022-23 Tier-3 Syllabus
This is a descriptive exam consisting of having to write essays, applications, letters, etc. The tier-3 exam is only attended by candidates interested in the positions of ‘Statistical Investigator Grade-II’ & ‘Compiler’. There is no specific syllabus, but candidates must brush up their writing skills in order to be able to present thoughts in an organized manner within 60 minutes.

SSC CGL 2022-23 Tier-4 Syllabus
SSC CGL Tier-4 stage tests the candidates’ typing and digital information presentation skills. It can be split into DEST and CPT.
- DEST (Data Entry Speed Test): The candidate will have to type 2000 words from a given article within 15 minutes to further advance for the position of Tax Assistant (Central Excise and Income Tax).
- CPT (Computer Proficiency Test): If interested in the positions of CSS, MEA, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), or Inspector (Examiner) the candidate will have to have expertise in spreadsheet management, word processing, and digital slides creation.
