Automatic update in Windows 10 is a severe problem. This issue is facing nearly all users of Windows. Sometimes this issue is so irritating that the users often wish to shift to the older versions of windows. But there is no doubt that Windows 10 is the best operating system ever. The automatic update in windows creates some genuine issues. After every update, the necessary changes made in the machine disappear. After every update, sometimes the machine goes slow. Also, the adaptation process takes a long time to complete. Also, the space of the device gets less after every update. An update is necessary for every machine. But it should be done with the consent of the user.

Method To Turn Off Update In Windows 10:

Step 1: At first, we need to press the Windows+R button. This will open a small window. This is known as the Run prompt. There we need to write the term ‘Service‘. This will help to recognize the particular target area. Then we have to click Ok to move forward.

Step 2: Now, a new window will appear in front of us. There is the necessary services list present. There we have to scroll down & find out the Windows Update option. After finding out the option, we need to right-click there. This will help to show more options related to it. There we have to click on the Properties option.

Step 3: Now, another new window will open in front of us. In the General Settings Tab, there is a Startup Type dropdown option provided. We have to click on there. We have to choose to Disabled option to turn off the update in Windows 10.

Step 4: Now, after that, we have to click on the Apply button there. This will make the changes to the configuration of the machine.

Step 5: Then we have to click on the Ok button to close the window & save the changes.

Now, we can close all the opened windows of the device.

Note: After executing the above steps, some users can think that they have turned off the update option. But this is completely a wrong assumption. Making all those changes is a temporary solution. After making those changes for some time, users will not face any issues. But after some time, it will again start the update process. It will do the background update process & again they will face the issues.

For that, we need to make a permanent solution to the problem. So, for that after executing the above steps, we need to again move forward with the below-mentioned steps carefully. This will help to permanently turn off the update in windows 10.

Step 6: Now, we have to again open the Run prompt. Again we have to press the Windows+R simultaneously. There we have to write the term ‘Regedit‘. This will help to open the Register of the device to make some permanent changes.

Step 7: Now, there will be some options provided on the left-hand side of the screen. We need to first click on the option ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE‘. By clicking on that, we will expand the options there. There will find an option as Software. We need to click on it & expand the further options.

Step 8: Under the software option, there are some more options are present. From there we need to find out the option as the ‘Policy‘. We need to click on it & expand it.

Step 9: Then under the ‘Policy‘ option, there will be a ‘Microsoft‘ option. We need to expand it by clicking on it.

Step 10: Under the Microsoft option, there will be a ‘Windows option present. We need to right-click on the option there. There we don’t need to expand it further.

Step 11: After right click on it, a set of options will be available in front of us. We need to click on the New option to get more options. At last, we need to click on the Key option there.

Step 12: After that, a new text box will open below the options. There we need to write the ‘WindowUpdate‘. And then, we need to Enter.

Note: Users please keep in mind that, we should not place any space in between WindowsUpdate. Placing one space in between those terms may arise errors. We have to be very careful there.

Step 13: Now, on the WindowUpdate, we need to perform the same task. Again we need to right-click over there. Then we have to go for the New option. Inside the New option, we need to click on the Key option.

Step 14: Then, in the same manner, we have to write ‘AU‘ there in the text box. Then we have to press Enter to make changes.

Step 15: After that, at the right-hand side of the screen, at any random position, we need to right-click there. Then some more options will available. Now, we have to click on New. There a set of options will be available. From there, we need to click on the DWORD (32 bit) Value.

Step 16: Now, a new text box will open. There we need to write the ‘NoAutoUpdate‘. Here, we also note down the Data shown there. Here all the data are zero.

Note: Users please keep in mind that, we should not place any space in between NoAutoUpdate. This is also a case-sensitive issue. Placing one space in between those terms may arise errors. We have to be very careful there.

Step 17: Now, there we need to double-click on that NoAutoUpdate. A new small window will open. There we need to change the Value data from 0 to 1. The 1 value will make the disable option. The 0 option proves that the device update is enabled. There the 1 option proof that the device update is disabled. Then we have to click on the Ok button.

Step 18: Now, after making all those changes, we will find that the data is changed. There is 1 number is present in the dataset. This is proof that the update process is disabled permanently.

Hence, we have successfully turned off the update in Windows 10.
