Visa visited our campus for the summer Data Engineer Associate (Software Developer) summer intern role during August -September. The selection procedure consisted of a coding round and an online interview.

Round 1: Online Coding Test

Platform: CodeSignal

Time: 90 mins

Questions: It consisted of a total of 4 questions, primarily medium-level problems found on Leetcode. Only the students who were able to solve all questions quickly were shortlisted for the interview round. The questions varied from person to person.

A total of 8 students were shortlisted for interviews.

Round 2: Online Interview (Technical + HR)

Platform: MS Teams

Time: around 45-50 mins

Questions: My interviewer was a senior Cybersecurity Engineer at Visa. We began the interview by introducing ourselves, and then he asked me about a project I listed on my CV. He asked me about the architecture, workflow, and scalability precautions that I had taken in my project. Since a college student is not expected to know or implement scalable applications, I simply accepted that we haven’t designed the system for such large scale application usage. He later asked me about the authentication method I was using in the project, and we discussed upon it for some time. He later gave me a simple coding question to solve, just to check if I was able to code in any language of my choice.

During the last few minutes of the interview, he asked some typical HR questions like, why Visa? And what do you expect from Visa during your internship? Finally, he asked me if I had any questions for him. I asked him about what should I improve in myself from the interview, and what projects will we be working on upon joining as interns.

The results were announced within two-three hours of the interview. A total of 3 students were selected, of which I was one of them.

General Preparation Tips:

Try to solve as many problems as you can. Any student with decent coding ability could be able to crack the coding rounds. The interviews are more focussed on your CV. Try to be prompt with any questions asked about your CV, and be humble to the interviewer. There are standard answers as how should the architecture of your project should be explained, etc. Accept the mistakes that you’ve made, and depict your eagerness to learn from mistakes and enthusiasm to work with the company. Finally, don’t be afraid of rejections.

Any additional questions are welcomed in the comment sections.
