Newgen Interview Experience for Software Engineer (On-Campus)

Interviewing for a coveted position at NEWGEN during an on-campus recruitment drive was both exhilarating and, ultimately, a rollercoaster of emotions. The journey began with an online coding exam that, to my relief, proved to be a bit easier than anticipated. Successfully navigating through the coding challenges, I eagerly advanced to the next stage – the technical interview round.

The technical round, conducted offline at my college premises, presented a moderate level of difficulty. The interview panel delved into my proficiency in Java, posing 3-4 coding questions that required a thorough understanding of the language. Following this, they tested my knowledge of SQL, requesting me to write 4-5 queries on the spot. The interrogation extended to topics like JDBC, where I found myself explaining concepts and showcasing my practical knowledge.

Navigating the technical round, I managed to impress the interviewers enough to proceed to the HR round. Surprisingly, the HR round proved to be a brief affair, lasting only about 5 minutes. The questions were relatively easy, focusing on my background, aspirations, and the usual HR drill. With a sense of accomplishment, I received the news that I had secured a position at NEWGEN.

However, my excitement was short-lived as I soon found myself grappling with the harsh reality of unfulfilled promises. The commitments made during the pre-placement talk by the company were not honored, leaving me disillusioned. Despite only spending two days at NEWGEN, I decided to resign, realizing that the disparity between expectations and reality was too great to ignore.

My stint at NEWGEN may have been short-lived, but the experience taught me valuable lessons about aligning expectations and the importance of transparency during the recruitment process. While the on-campus journey had its highs and lows, it ultimately led me to a path where I could seek a better fit for both my skills and expectations in the professional world.
