Vishwakarma Government Engineering College [VGEC], is one of the most renowned government engineering colleges in Gujarat. It was established in 1994 in Ahmedabad to impart higher education in various engineering and technology fields. It’s a green campus with a lot of plants and trees around making it the best place to visit and study. VGEC offers undergraduate programs like Bachelor of Engineering in Computer, Information Technology, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, etc.

I got to know about VGEC from my Cousin’s Brother who was pursuing BE in Computer and He told me that it is one of the best government engineering colleges in Gujarat. And that was the time when I listed VGEC in the list of colleges where I wanted to take admission. To gain admission to this college, a state common entrance test called the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET) is conducted every year. This test consists of the MCQs on three subjects – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and there are 40 MCQs for each subject, so overall the test consists of 120 MCQs and there’s one mark for each MCQ that is correct and negative one-fourth for wrong answer. Based on the marks obtained in the test, merit rank gets prepared and with the help of that rank, students can be admitted to various private and government engineering colleges in Gujarat.

The eligibility criteria required for giving this test is that the student must pass his or her 12th standard examination. The syllabus for this test is the same as that of the syllabus of the 12th standard. This test usually takes place three weeks after the 12th standard board examination. So I got a good amount of time to prepare for it.

After taking the test, I got my result in around 2 months and then the admission process started. In Gujarat, there is an admission committee called ACPC which handles all the admission-related processes and this is the organization that prepares the ALL GUJARAT RANK of students based on the marks obtained in the GUJCET. After getting my rank, I had to do this process of choice filling in which I needed to select the colleges and courses on a priority basis. The seats are allocated to the students based on their choice of filling. If they are satisfied with the college and course allocated, they can accept it or else they can reject it and take part in the second round.

In my case, I was very fortunate that I got admission to VGEC in the second round itself and my course was Computer Engineering. I still remember that I jumped with a lot of happiness that day when I saw that I got admission to VGEC. I was very excited to visit the campus and make new friends there. Currently, I am in the second year of college and I am still very happy about my decision to take admission to this amazing college because this is the place that helped me reveal my true potential.
