I am currently pursuing my B.Tech CSE at SRM-AP. It’s been a year since I joined. And, looking back I don’t see any regret. SRM is known for its Chennai campus. This one is in its development phase as it’s a young university. But I am surprised to see that it’s already looking more developed.

Let’s take a dig in.

About Campus:

I am not going to read out the facts from the university’s website. I am going to say about what I know and have verified.

So, the whole campus is basically designed by the American architectural firm called Perkins & Will. No wonder why it looks so scenic and different from other colleges. The campus is built keeping in mind international standards. SRM-AP is an international university. We have students from other countries too, which I will discuss in a while.

About Students:

SRM-AP is home to about 6.5-7k students. The most important beautiful thing is diversity. We have students from all over India and outside India. We have international students from Oman, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Madagascar, Nepal, Bahrain, the US (Indian origin), Syria, South Sudan, Tanzania, Jamaica, etc. I would undoubtedly say that it’s the diversity that adds beauty to the campus. It’s just nice to see diverse people. I am really glad for this opportunity where I can make a lot of international friends. And, yes, I have made a lot of them.

Alone outside India, we have tremendous diversity even inside India. We have students from Delhi, Gujarat, Odisha, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharasthra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, etc.

I may have missed many. But these were the places the people I met came from.

Coding Culture:

Most of you reading this article must be a computer science student. Well, if you are I have got some good news for you. The university has something called “Next Tech Lab” abbreviated as NTL. Just by joining in it will itself make you feel like you have accomplished something. You can say that it’s the place where all the passionate geeks meet up. It’s a lab renowned for its unique achievements. From hackathons to coding competitions. It has four divisions for AI/ML, App development, IOT, CyberSec and Blockchain. Based on your interest and skills you can join any lab where you would want to work on. Trust me, Its full of fun and challenges. Everyone in the lab is a smart techy!

But joining is not so easy, first you have to prove yourself that you have the skills to work on the specific domain. If you can’t prove yourself, then take your time build the necessary skills and come back. But don’t give up!

About Cultural fests:

I am sure most of you were waiting for this topic. So, yes, no need to worry about that. SRM-AP has got you covered. There are many festivals with proper intervals. It’s not like if one fest is conducted now then the other will be conducted after a long time. No! the next one will come in a blink of an eye! And yea no need to worry about guests too. Last year we invited Armaan Malik for one of the fests (I hope you know him!). He is basically a famous Bollywood singer and composer.

About Tech fests:

Apart from cultural fest, these are the festivals that geeks enjoy. Tech fests allows you to showcase your research or projects that you have been working on. Many people come and visit your projects. If it’s worth for funding, you might even get an investor! There are quite a lot of tech fests. So, again SRM-AP has got you covered geeks!

About faculties:

This is one of the most important aspects of campus experience. When, it comes to faculties, everyone I have ever met made me feel glad that I have joined here. I am a bit overwhelmed by the fact that almost every faculty member has done their education in prestigious institutions. I mean like IIT’s. And, when it comes to teaching, they all have their own unique styles which makes it ever more interesting and engaging.

I am even more overwhelmed by the fact that about 5-6 faculties/researchers from SRM-AP have been listed in the top 2% of the scientific community listed out by Stanford University.

About Clubs:

So, talking about clubs. This is one of the most engaging and interesting campus experience. There are around 20+ clubs currently active in the university. I am not going to list all of them. But here are some prominent ones.

Music Club, Dance Club, Theatre Club, Coding Club, Photography Club, and etc.

I am pretty sure your talent won’t go wasted!

There are still many things to add. I will try to keep updating!!
