IBM

Hey, I’m a Final year student at an III-Tier college and recently sat in the IBM India Pvt Ltd. (for Consulting business) placement drive at my campus for the post of Associate System Engineer.

Following were the Key Roles and responsibilities: Focus will be on individual/ team objectives and involve individuals in the development of professional effectiveness. In the role, an individual will design applications, write codes, test, debug, and maintain Software Applications across various platforms and technologies.

Following were the Key Competencies/skills they were looking for in the candidate: Programming (preferably in Java, Python, Node.js) and Software Development Life Cycle Concepts.

The Placement process was divided into the following 4 rounds :

• Coding Capability (IBM CodeKnack) :

This was the first round of the process in which 1 coding question was given to each candidate which had to be completed in 30 minutes. It was basically a coding problem on the Hackerank platform which had 7 test cases.

• English Language Assessment:

After the Coding round, I qualified for the English language assessment which was again time based as well as had negative marking. This assessment basically evaluated our english proficiency, interpersonal skills, grammar usage and other basic language requirements.

• Group Discussion:

Once you qualify the English Language Assessment round, you enter in the 3rd round of the process I.e Group Discussion. Now this round again checks, your interpersonal skills, how well spoken you are, your confidence level. The group in which I was, got the topic : “Cinema VS OTT Platforms” for the discussion.

• Personal Interview:

The Group Discussion was followed by Personal Interview which was both Tech + HR Round ( more of a Technical Interview). I was asked questions about myself, my projects which I had worked on, my techstack, frameworks and questions based upon OOPS concept as well as basic DSA theoretical questions.

That was all from my side to share as an interview experience.
