SVBIT Campus Experience

Hi folks,

Hope you are doing well. As you know the topic is about writing on-campus experiences, here I will share my experience regarding that.

INTRODUCTION OF COLLEGE:

I’m pursuing a B.E. in Computer Engineering from SVBIT, Gandhinagar. Currently, I’m in my final year (8th semester). The college is located in a beautiful and peaceful place. It is surrounded by forest areas and the farms of nearby villagers. The college consists of one big garden with two ponds in which the lotus blooms. It also has one playground where various sports activities like racing, kabaddi, cricket and football take place. It has a separate building for the admin office. There are 5 blocks and each block is an individual building for different departments of courses offered by the college. There are various cutting-edge laboratories for students and faculties of their respective branches. The college offers all the courses for branches including engineering, nursing, pharmacy, law, business and commerce and arts. It also has a separate hostel for boys and girls. The college also provides gymnasium facilities to college students. The canteen is the place where most of the students gather to have food, and fun and complete their assignments. The library is also available.

THE JOURNEY:

Firstly, I’ll start with my first-year experience. It was during the COVID period in 2020 when I got into the first year of my college. Our lectures were held online on Google Meet. This continued for the whole first semester. Now comes the time for university exams for the first semester and the exams were held offline. As soon as the exams were over our second semester commenced. This time the second wave of COVID hit again and we got mass promoted to third semester. So the first year went in that manner. We didn’t have any kind of interaction face-to-face. Exams were conducted in online mode.

SECOND YEAR:

Now we were back to offline mode and got to meet and know the batch-mates of our semester. We attended a few lectures at the beginning of the semester but with time, the number of lecture attendees decreased gradually. I got two backlogs in 4th semester which I cleared before the fifth semester’s final university exam. This was the toughest year for me mentally.

THIRD YEAR :

This is the time when you start getting worried about your CGPA as a student. So was in my case and I began to put more effort into final exams to acquire a higher CGPA. I went to college only a few times, it was only during the time of submission when I regularly went to college. In the third year, we had a subject of “Python for Data Science” and I developed a bit of interest in it. Then, I thought of becoming a Python developer.

FINAL YEAR :

I’ve cleared 7th semester with 7.71 SPI. In the 8th semester, every student must do an internship in the field of their interest related to their branch. Currently, my training period is going on in Web Development.

COLLEGE FESTS :

During my college time, we had many different activities. The faculties arranged tech-fests called TEKVIDEN, sports week and cultural activities. I participate in sports like cricket, racing and chess.

PLACEMENTS :

Some private companies have relations with our college aiming to provide training or internships to students who might be interested in applying in their company. The companies are located in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. There were only 2-3 companies that visited the college to recruit interns. The recruitment began in mid-January. I don’t have much interest in programming so I thought of not applying to any of those companies. Later on, I realized that I had to do the internship at any cost because if not now then somewhere later I will have to do it. So I began searching for internships in Web Development and finally found a company.
