Greetings, fellow readers! I am Anjali Gupta, a third-year Electrical Engineering student at NIT Jalandhar (2020-2024). Today, I am excited to share my wonderful intern interview experience with Reliance Industries Limited.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) conducted a Campus drive at our college, seeking students from core branches such as Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Textile Technology, and more.

The interview process consisted of three rounds:

1. Written Test: The written examination comprised two sections: Aptitude and Domain Knowledge. In the aptitude section, we had 30 questions covering Quantitative Aptitude, Logical & Verbal Reasoning. The second half-hour section focused on 50 questions specific to my electrical domain, covering topics such as Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, and other core subjects.

2. Campus Application Form & HR Questions: Those who cleared the written test were asked to fill the Campus Application form, which included basic details and a set of HR Questions. The HR questions aimed to understand our career aspirations and personal qualities, including:

  1. Where do you see your professional career in the next 2 years?
  2. What do you like to do in your free time?
  3. What are your strengths and areas of improvement (mention two)?
  4. How would you describe your personality?
  5. Who is your role model, and why?
  6. Your achievements (both academic and extracurricular)

The answers we provided in this application form played a crucial role in shaping the HR round, so we had to prepare thoughtful and well-justified responses.

3. Technical Round: To ensure a cheating-free environment, the technical round was conducted on Microsoft Teams in the TPO office. My panel had two interviewers, and they began by asking for my introduction. Since some of my friends in the panel and I were working on the same project, the interviewers were already aware of it. Hence, they focused on my role and how we managed the project.

They then inquired about my favorite subject, and I mentioned Electrical Machines. The questions they asked related to this subject included:

  • What is a synchronous motor and generator?
  • What are the differences between synchronous motor and induction motor?
  • Explain the differences between AC and DC generators.
  • How do we reduce losses in transformers?
  • What is power factor?
  • What are the differences between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)?
  • Additionally, they asked about my project’s relevance to AWS (Amazon Web Services) and posed some basic questions from Power Electronics and Electrical Machines, considering my interest in the subject.

Throughout the interview, the interviewers actively listened to me and posed parallel questions. The technical round concluded in about 10-15 minutes.

4. HR Round: The third round was another HR round, with two interviewers. The questions included:

  • Brief introduction
  • Long-term career goals
  • Hobbies and interests
  • Intentions regarding higher studies or additional courses
  • In a rather unexpected inquiry, they asked if I had any relatives or acquaintances in government service, medical profession, or chartered accountancy. The reason for this question wasn’t apparent, but I provided my response nonetheless.
  • They also asked why I wanted to work at Reliance, and I elaborated on my interest in the specific project they had introduced.

This HR round wrapped up in 10-12 minutes.

After a few days, the results were announced, and I was fortunate to be selected for the internship at Reliance Industries Limited. Out of the 45 students who took the written test, a total of 11 students secured the internship.

In conclusion, my experience taught me that having a solid grasp of your domain subjects and being well-informed about the company and its projects can greatly increase your chances of working with a prestigious organization like Reliance.

I hope this detailed account of my interview experience will be beneficial to all aspiring candidates. Thank you for reading!
