IIT Mandi Campus Experience

I am currently doing my graduation from IIT Mandi where I am a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering student currently in my second year. Overall my college experience is full of some moments of enjoyment, depression and sleepless nights. All these experiences are filled with learning from our mistakes and correcting them in future.

About the Campus:

IIT Mandi comprises of 2 campuses – North and South couple of kilometers away from each other. The two beautiful campuses comprise 538 acres of beautiful land in the Himalayas. As an undergraduate, I was allotted North Campus. The campus comprises 5 Hostels each having 3-4 blocks. Currently, we have 4 messes and 3 canteens inside the campus itself. There are many academic buildings and a 3-storey library for the students. We have a health center which has basic facilities to cure us. Sports facilities are also awesome but are distributed equally among both campuses, so there is a lot of movement between campuses in the evening.

First-Year Experience:

Due to the COVID pandemic, our first year started very late, around the start of November. We were just in time to witness our first fest on campus, Rann-Neeti, the Annual sports fest of IIT Mandi. It was a tremendous experience, different from our school days as not only there were sports events but we were also able to enjoy sports. Stand-up comedy one night to DJ on another was something for which it was worth waiting for the past two years. After that, there were many freshers events conducted by our beloved seniors to help us settle into new surroundings. Through these events, I made new friends, learned to socialize and gained more of holistic development. Then the exams started and we were all busy in it. The next semester was very enjoyable as we went on different trips in Himachal, enjoyed more fests, participated in different events, and created a lot of nuisance in college, that is when I realized the real meaning of college life.

Second-Year (Current Year) Experience:

The second year is going much better than the first. With more knowledge of what to do and what not, I enjoyed this year a lot more than the previous one. Although my friend’s group remained the same I was able to make more friends who were very helpful. The pressure of studies was much more but with enough recreational activities and spending time with friends everything went much smoothly. Due to certain circumstances, we were not able to socialize with our juniors as much but I would look forward to meeting them.

Summary:

With many ups and downs in college life, one thing that supported me was never giving up. So during this semester break, I am starting a new habit of solving at least one question every day. And to begin with, I am very helpful to GeeksForGeeks Problem of The Day. It gives me the motivation to keep doing it every day and continue my streak.
