Adani Group is one of India’s largest business conglomerates specializing in electric power generation and transmission, renewable energy, port management, airport operations, food processing, and infrastructure. In this article, I shall share my complete assessment and interview experience at Adani Group for the role of Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET).

Background:

Adani Group conducted an on-campus placement drive at our institution in December 2022 to recruit freshers for the various engineering divisions across the company. The registration process, as well as the online assessment, was held on the L&T EduTech platform. There was a rigorous initial resume screening to filter out the candidates who did not meet the eligibility criteria.

Role Offered:

  • Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET)

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Final-year B.E./B.Tech students (ECE, EE, ME, CE, ChE)
  • Less than 1 year of educational gap after Higher Secondary
  • Candidates born on or after June 1999

Online Assessment Details:

The structure of the placement drive was broadly divided into 4 rounds – Resume Screening, Online Aptitude Assessment, Asynchronous Video Interview, and Technical Interview. Each round of the recruitment process was an elimination round. More than 150 students appeared for the online assessment after the initial resume screening.

Aptitude Test Round:

  • The test was divided into 4 sections, with each section comprising 40 Questions.
  • The total duration of the assessment was 160 minutes. Each section was individually timed.
  • Switching between sections was not allowed. The candidates were to complete each section within the stipulated time.
  • It was allowed to navigate between questions of the same section.
  • On the completion of the allotted time or all questions, the system would automatically move on to the next section.

  • My Domain Specialization was ECE. The questions were primarily based on Control Systems, Networking, Diodes and Logic Gates, Electronic Devices, Analog/Digital Communication and Microprocessors.
  • The overall difficulty level for the online assessment was Medium.
  • The Verbal Ability section was the easiest, while the Analytical Ability and Domain-based sections were relatively tough.

Asynchronous Video Interview Round:

  • The results of the OA were announced within 2 days. About 40 students qualified for this round
  • An asynchronous Video Interview is a one-way psycholinguistic-based assessment in which there is no interviewer in real-time. A series of questions are displayed on the screen sequentially and the candidates have to record the answer for each question in a stipulated time.
  • The Video Interview Round was conducted on the Talocity platform.
  • A candidate could take the test on either a mobile or a laptop.
  • 36 hours were provided to attempt and complete this round.
  • There were a total of 5 questions, each of which was supposed to be answered in 2 minutes or less.
  • A preparation time of 30 seconds was provided after each question appeared on the screen. We were allowed to do a retake after answering only once.
  • The first question was about self-introduction. The following four questions were based on personal values and experiences.

Technical Interview Details:

It took about 2 weeks for the results of the Video Interview to be released. Each candidate qualifying for the Technical Interview was informed individually, hence the total number of students who cleared the previous round was not revealed. I received an email from the Adani HR Team confirming my qualification for the Technical Interview Round, in the first week of January 2023. The interview was scheduled to be held the very next day on MS Teams.

My Technical Interview lasted for approximately 40 minutes. I faced a panel of 2 technical interviewers and one HR interviewer.

The difficulty of the interview is subjective, based on your knowledge and preparation level. The interviewers in my panel were very friendly and amicable.

Verdict: Selected!

17 students across 4 engineering disciplines were given the job offer at Adani Group. This was my first interview for a core engineering role, so I felt quite elated upon receiving the offer.

What worked for me and points to remember:

  • If you do not know much about a particular topic that is outside your curriculum or skillsets, state that you have an elementary idea about it and show your willingness to learn. It leaves a positive impact on your interviewer.
  • The interviewers are usually much more senior in age and expertise. Don’t be intimidated or over-confident when presenting yourself. Reciprocate their positive energy and engage in a conversation instead of a viva exam tone.
  • It is extremely important to have at least basic knowledge of all the topics in your engineering curriculum. For a core engineering role, a significant weightage is given to your main subjects both in OA and Technical Interviews.
  • Prepare 3-4 topics from your curriculum thoroughly, especially the ones that are congruent to the interests of the company and the position that you are applying for.
  • It is advisable to have prior technical experiences like Internships or Vocational Training to validate your skillsets.
  • Provide a short description for each project that you have mentioned in your resume and learn the specifics by heart.
  • Do proper background research about the company before the interview, especially its vision, mission, and achievements.
