Education: B.E. in Computer Engineering

UBS conducted a campus visit in the middle of October 2023.

Hiring Process:

1st round:

Students had to complete an online assessment test having 51 questions within a time limit of 1 hour and 15 minutes.

The assessment had a coding question where students had to find the lexicographically smallest string from a given string and a vector of strings, which could be created by rearranging the characters in the given string. Also, the remaining 50 questions in the assessment were multiple choice questions from various topics in computer science fundamentals, such as Java, object-oriented programming (OOP), operating systems (OS), and aptitude. (50 + 1 = 51)

After 3 days the technical interview and HR rounds were scheduled.

2nd round (Technical Interview):

Here are some questions that I remember from my technical interview-

  • Introduce yourself.
  • Tell me about your projects.
  • Were the projects developed by you or in a team?
  • Why did you use MERN stack for your project?
  • What specific role did you play in the project?
  • Why did your team opt for MongoDB as the database to store the information in the project?
  • Which database management systems are you familiar with? You mentioned MySQL.
  • Please write a query to display the author and the number of books written by them from a table having multivalued attributes.
  • Tell me the sequence of execution for the query, specifying what happens first and so on.
  • Are you familiar with PLSQL? Can you write a trigger?
  • Explain me different types of inheritance in object-oriented programming?
  • Do you want to go for further education, and if not, why?
  • What do you know about UBS? (it’s not necessary to know this answer but if you know then well and good)

My Advice:-

In your resume, it’s important to include only the skills and experiences you are truly confident in. Honesty, attentiveness, fluency, confidence and accuracy are the skills you should develop. If you encounter a question to which you don’t know the answer, it’s fine to admit that you don’t have that knowledge. There’s no need to panic in that situation.

The interview lasted for around 45 minutes.

3rd Round (HR round):

This conversation spanned approximately 15 to 20 minutes. The following questions were asked :

  • Introduce yourself.
  • Do you want to anything about UBS?
  • Tell me about your family background?
  • What are your hobbies and interests?
  • What do you consider your greatest strength?
  • What do you consider your greatest weakness?
  • In a scenario where you are leading a team that is not responding well, how would you handle the situation?
  • What is your dream company?
  • Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Verdict: Selected

Tips :

  • Adaptability was a key quality they were interested in. Majority of my experience was in frontend technologies, they were particularly focused on scenarios where I might be assigned backend work and how I would react to such situations.
  • Displaying confidence and showing positive energy can greatly enhance your performance and create a strong first impression. However, it’s important to remember that your knowledge and how effectively you present it will determine your success.

I feel that this experience will be of benefit to you in some way. Thank you!
