Education: B.E. in Computer Engineering from Tier 1 college.

UBS conducted a campus visit in the middle of October 2023.

Hiring Process:

1st round:

In the college computer labs, students had to complete an online assessment test consisting of 50 questions within a time limit of 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The assessment included a coding question where students had to find the lexicographically smallest string from a given string and a vector of strings, which could be created by rearranging the characters in the provided string. Additionally, the remaining 50 questions in the assessment were multiple-choice questions covering various topics in computer science fundamentals, such as Java, object-oriented programming (OOP), operating systems (OS), and aptitude. (50 + 1 = 51)
After 3 days the technical interview and HR rounds were scheduled.

2nd round (Technical Interview):

Here are some questions that I remember from my technical interview-

  • Can you provide some details about yourself?
  • Could you share information about the project you’ve been involved in?
  • Was this project completed as part of a team effort?
  • What motivated the choice of the MERN stack for your project?
  • What specific role did you play in the project?
  • Why did your team opt for MongoDB as the database solution?
  • Which database management systems are you familiar with? You mentioned MySQL.
  • Please write a query to display the author and the number of books written by them from a table.
  • Explain the sequence of execution for the query, specifying what happens first and so on.
  • Are you familiar with PLSQL? Can you write a trigger?
  • Could you describe the different types of inheritance in object-oriented programming?
  • Are you considering further education, and if not, what’s the reason?
  • What knowledge do you possess about UBS?

My Advice:-

In your resume, it’s important to include only the skills and experiences you are truly confident in. Honesty, attentiveness, fluency, confidence and accuracy should be your guiding principles. If you encounter a question to which you don’t know the answer, it’s perfectly acceptable to admit that you don’t have that knowledge. There’s no need to panic in such a situation.

The interview lasted for around 45 minutes.

3rd Round (HR round):

This conversation spanned approximately 15 to 20 minutes, during which the following questions were asked :

  • Can you provide an introduction about yourself?
  • Are there any questions you’d like to ask about UBS?
  • Could you tell me about your family background?
  • What are your hobbies and interests?
  • What do you consider your greatest strength?
  • Can you share what you believe is your greatest weakness?
  • In a scenario where you are leading a team that is not functioning well, how would you handle the situation?
  • Do you have a dream company you aspire to work for?
  • Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Verdict: Selected

Tips :

When it comes to inquiries about pursuing higher studies, it’s advisable to respond with a “No” or remain neutral by saying, “It depends on whether there’s an opportunity and a clear need.” This approach demonstrates a commitment to your current career while also showing openness to future possibilities. Companies often value candidates who exhibit loyalty and adaptability.

Adaptability was a key quality they were interested in. Given that a significant portion of my experience was in frontend technologies, they were particularly focused on scenarios where I might be assigned backend work and how I would respond to such situations.

Displaying confidence and radiating positive energy can greatly enhance your performance and create a strong initial impression. However, it’s important to remember that your knowledge and how effectively you convey it ultimately determine your success.

I trust that this experience will be of benefit to you in some way. Thank you!
