I have completed my graduation in Computer Science and Engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela (2023). Overall, there were ups and downs during my college days and we couldn’t live our college life due to the pandemic as for two years, the classes were completely virtual. I got placed in a good company (IT Sector) and I would like to thank my college for providing me with the opportunity and platform to achieve this.

About the Campus:

The campus area is very huge. There are more than 25 branches in the college to pursue your study. Besides BTech, courses for BE, MSc, Int. MSc, MTech, PhD, and MBA are offered there. Two common buildings (LA I and LA II), and specific buildings for the specific branch students with modern classrooms, laboratories, a huge library, a Student Activity Center (SAC), 10+ halls of Residence, and many restaurants are there in the campus area. There are many technical, cultural, and sports clubs on campus. Sports complexes for cricket, football, basketball, gyms, and a swimming pool are also there.

First-year Experience:

We attended 85% of the first year offline. All students of the batch were divided into different sections irrespective of their branch, which helped us to connect with different branch people, and make new friends. Apart from studies, we enjoyed doing practicals, especially the Workshop. There was a freshers’ party arranged by the seniors for every branch loaded with fun activities. Mentors were allocated to us who helped us and solved the queries we had. The tech-fest INNOVISON, and the cultural fest NITRUSTAV, were two of the best enjoyable fests of the college during the first year.

Second-year and Third-year Experience:

Except for the last month of the third year, the classes and exams were completely online. Even for us as well as the profs, it took some time to cope with the new change. For some time, it was difficult to learn mathematics in online mode. As we stayed in our home for nearly 2 years, the friend circle couldn’t grow. But in the last month of the third year, we were called to the college and asked to appear exam in offline mode after doing 15 days of offline course. That was the most difficult task for us. After the examinations, we had a celebrity night by Jubin Nautiyal.

Fourth-year Experience:

The fourth year was completely offline. This is like we interacted with all the friends of our batch for the very first time in offline mode. The course load was proper, but 85% attendance always sucks. When you have good friends to mark your attendance and give a proxy for you, then you shouldn’t worry. Fests, Sports Competitions, etc were conducted. Doing the research work for the whole year was not that much enjoyable, but finally putting your work in the conference and seeing your name as an author in Google Scholar gives a special feeling.

Placements:

The placement in NIT Rourkela is very good. The highest package was INR 52.89 LPA for our batch with an average CTC of INR 12.95 LPA. Placements in Software and IT Services (31.1%) were the most, and some good companies that visited us are Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, SAP labs, Mathworks, etc. The placement was near 100% in our college this year.
