HSBC is multinational banking and financial services organization that hires freshers for the role of Trainee Software Engineer. There are 4 rounds in the selection procedure-

Round 1- MCQs and Coding Round

This round is divided into two parts- the first one is MCQs and the second one is the coding round. There are generally 30-40 MCQs and 2 coding questions. If someone has not performed well in MCQs then, the coding round will not be open for them so basically the first part of the first round is also an elimination round. I performed well on MCQ round and I solved both coding questions so I was qualified for the next round.

Round 2- Value Assessment Round

In this round, normal behavioral and situational questions are asked. This is a very short-duration round which usually varies between 16 minutes to 30 minutes. One thing to take care of, this is also an elimination round because we first thought this is just for formality but HSBC being a bank, is very strict about the values of the organization and its employees.

Round 3- Technical Interview

In this round, usually, a coding question and questions related to core subjects like OS, DBMS, CN, and OOPs are asked. Questions that were asked to me

  • What are virtual functions?
  • Difference between virtual and pure virtual functions?
  • What is graph data structure?
  • What is inheritance and what types of inheritance are there in java?
  • Types of polymorphism

I also had to code a question where I have to find a duplicate element in an array and return it. 2 SQL queries were asked me which were of medium level.

Round 4- HR Interview

The last interview round was very short and quick. Some basic questions were asked like-

  • Introduce yourself
  • Questions related to the project
  • Current project
  • Who all are there in your family?
  • Location preference

After the HR round, Results were declared after a month and I got selected.
