HSBC came for campus recruitment in November 2022 in our college and the whole process consisted of 4 rounds.

  • Online assessment
    • Aptitude
    • Coding
  • Value-Based Assessment
  • Technical Interview
  • HR Interview

Round 1- Online Assessment

The online test was conducted by CoCubes it was for about 45-60 mins. It consisted of MCQs on topics like verbal reasoning, logical reasoning, reading comprehension, and curriculum subjects like DBMS, OS, and Networking. If you pass certain criteria of this round only then you will be able to attempt the coding round.

The coding round consisted of 2 questions which were medium-level questions and could be done easily.

After a month we got the results of this round.

Round 2 – Value Assessment

The value assessment consisted of scenario-based questions which were pretty simple and you had to choose the priority between 3 options. This round was also an elimination round because the company focuses on its ethics a lot. So choose the options wisely.

After 10 days we got the results and after that, they asked if we are ready to come to Ghaziabad for the pool campus Physical Interview on Jan end.

Round 3 – Technical Round

This round was pretty huge around 400 girls participated in this drive which was conducted in 2 days, 4th-5th February.

There were around 15 panels for the TR and each panelist was sitting in a separate cabin, we were called according to the slot allotted to us.

At first, my TR Interviewer made me comfortable by having a normal conversation like how was my journey and all….and all this time he was looking at my CV and started asking about my projects, Internships, about my role in the same.

Then came technical questions:

  • What do you know about Docker? Have you worked on it? (because docker was mentioned in my resume)
  • Asked me about the 4 pillars of OOP, then asked me questions on Polymorphism and types of polymorphism
  • In DBMS he asked me about Joins
  • Then came coding questions, he asked me 2 coding questions –
  1.    1367 (be it any number) write a code to convert it into words
  2.    remove duplicates from an array

I was able to answer almost all the technical questions, in the 1st coding question I was taking a little time to code but I explained to him my approach to the solution, and for the 2nd coding question I was able to do it. It lasted for about 30-35 mins

After coming out of the TR cabin within 2 minutes I was informed that I am selected and should proceed to the HR Round

Round 4 – HR Round

The HR round was for about 20 mins. She was having a look at me and my attire very closely then she asked me to introduce myself followed by questions like :

  • Why did you opt for science and not commerce, why Computer Science and not any other core branch?
  • About my family
  • About the city that I live in
  • About my weakness
  • If I have ever given an interview for any other company and did I get selected or not?
  • In the end, she asked me a deal-breaker question which was to tell me about our company.

So the answer that I gave was that HSBC is Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Cooperation, it was founded this year, and it is the first company to do this but she was not satisfied. Then I started talking about HTI – HSBC Technology India for which we were interviewing. I told her what it does, and about the products that it has built over the years. She was very impressed and said “Good. Very Good. You have done your homework properly”

I was very happy by the end of the process but…

Usually, it takes around 14- 20 days to respond back but our results came in after 2 months of the interview!!! I was not Selected!! I don’t know why what went wrong. 180 students appeared for the HR Round

120/180 – Selected after the HR Round

40/120 – Got the results that they are selected and the rest were kept on HOLD!

I was among the ones kept on HOLD which were very disheartening to hear after investing almost 4 months in the preparation, and 2 months waiting for the results.

My Suggestions

  • In physical Interviews, be in formal attire with appropriate footwear and neat and tidy hair.
  • Be Confident, work on your communication skills, and use your hand gestures appropriately.
  • Be familiar with the core subjects and also should have good knowledge of programming skills
  • Only write the things in your resume for which you are 100% confident because the interviewer looks at your resume very closely.
