Fidelity Investments visited our college to hire students for summer intern 2022.

Round 1:

It consisted of 4 sections in total.

First Section: There were basic multiple-choice questions evolving around prepositions, grammar, jumbled words, vocabulary, and paragraphs which were meant to test our command of the English language. The level of difficulty was easy.

Second section: It comprised 20 technical multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that were timed for 30 minutes and covered topics like OOPS, SQL, and predicting the outputs of C++ and Java programs. The level of difficulty was intermediate.

Third Section: It came up with 2 coding questions to solve in an hour. You can select any language of your choice for writing the code. Compared to coding questions from other firms, the questions were rather simple. The first question was to find the duplicates in a string and the second one I don’t remember exactly.

Fourth Section: For two provided questions, we had 15 minutes to write two algorithms. We were asked to create an algorithm to solve a real-world problem. The first algorithm was the prefix-postfix using stack and the second one revolved around path finding algorithms. The algorithms may vary from BFS, DFS to other sorting and searching algorithms as well.

Out of 180+ students who appeared for the first round, 50 of them got the selection mail for the second round.

Round 2: Technical Round

This round is different for each person. Some interviewers might inquire about your projects, while others might have DSA or SQL queries for you. For some it started with Introduction then digging deep into your work and resume. For others, the interviewer directly jumped to DSA questions like Reverse a String and Reverse a Linked List kind of questions. Whereas for some they asked SQL and CN questions directly in spite of the fact that they came to our college in the second year and we didn’t have those subjects but as we all know, we can’t give an excuse to our interviewer thus those people got rejected!

Key: Have a good SKILL-SET. Remember to always be prepared. You never know where they will show up and start digging. Some interviewers might just focus on your projects without posing any CS-related queries while some will go to core DBMS, CN, and OS stuff. So, try to have a strong resume that showcases all your skills, and be ready to respond to inquiries with confidence.

Both the Technical and HR rounds happened on the same day for us. The people who got shortlisted for the HR round got selection emails within an hour of finishing the interview.

Round 3: HR Round

The required skill to ace this round is communication and creativity. It started with Introduction and further moved to projects, how I approached them, and the tech stack. The round was like a usual HR round with general questions like why fidelity, what are your interests, etc. So have a good study about the company. Try to attend the pre-placement talks conducted by the college because that’s the place where the company will brief you about its goals and you can refer to how much your goals align with each other. Thus, to have a good study about the company is indeed important and a necessary step of any recruitment process.

Key: Confidence is the KEY!

After the 3 rounds of the recruitment process, 21 people were selected for the internship.
