Recruitment Process

The DE Shaw interview process mainly consists of 4 rounds:

  • Round 1: Coding round
  • Round 2: Technical Interview 1
  • Round 3: Technical Interview 2
  • Round 4: HR Round

Academic Criteria

  • 65% in X, XII, and UG/PG.
  • There should be no backlogs at all.

Coding round

  • Coding Questions: 3 questions of medium difficulty. If you’re good with data structures and algorithms, you’re all set for this part.
  • Technical and Aptitude Questions: 2 more sections consisting of MCQs on CS fundamentals such as OOPS, DBMS, CN, and aptitude questions as well. DE Shaw aptitude test is generally considered hard.

Technical Interview Round 1

The students who clear the coding round are called for an interview. In this round, they generally ask you to optimize or write the codes of the given questions. You may also be asked questions about data structures, algorithms, and SQL. You may also be asked puzzles in this round. You can be asked scenario-based questions and a couple of questions on CS fundamentals as well in this round.

Technical Interview 2

In this part of the interview, they’ll ask about the projects and internships you’ve mentioned on your resume. They also check how well you know the basics of computer science and might ask about things like data structures, algorithms, and some concepts related to Object-Oriented Programming (OOPS).

HR Round

In this round, you will be asked general questions like:

  1. Your strengths and weaknesses
  2. How do you deal with failures?
  3. What does D.E. Shaw do?
  4. How was your experience with previous rounds?
