I have worked with Barclays as AVP-technology for 4 years. I have primarily worked in the Derivatives division and helped the firm build a derivatives booking system.

In general, Barclays is a little slow and good for people who love work-life balance (excess of it). At times, you will be bored because of a lack of effort from your teammates.

Here are a few of the benefits of joining Barclays as a Senior Engineer/Team Lead:

  • Collaboration: Barclay’s engineers are encouraged to work closely with each other and with other teams and departments. This allows them to share ideas, learn from each other, and deliver better products and services.
  • Innovation: Barclays is committed to innovation, and its engineers are encouraged to come up with new ideas and solutions. The company offers a number of programs and initiatives to support innovation, such as hackathons and innovation labs.
  • Quality: Barclays engineers are committed to delivering high-quality products and services. They are held to high standards, and their work is regularly reviewed and tested.
  • Customer focus: Barclay’s engineers are focused on meeting the needs of their customers. They work closely with customers to understand their requirements and to deliver solutions that meet their needs.
  • Continuous learning: Barclay’s engineers are encouraged to continuously learn and grow. The company offers a number of training and development programs, and engineers are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities.

Here are a few of the things which are not so great:

  1. Slow-moving projects: The projects are usually longish and never finish on time due lackluster attitude of the staff
  2. Slow growth: Very slow growth and promotion even for deserving employees
  3. Average Compensation: Compensation is average, nothing extraordinary even in good profitable years.
  4. No travel opportunities: Nil to very less travel opportunities and that too will be taken up by senior management.

Barclays’ engineering culture is designed to create a supportive and stimulating environment where engineers can thrive. The company is committed to providing its engineers with the resources and opportunities they need to be successful.

Here are some specific examples of how Barclays’ engineering culture is put into practice:

  • Barclays has a number of cross-functional teams that bring together engineers from different disciplines to work on common projects. This helps to foster collaboration and innovation.
  • Barclays offers a number of training and development programs for its engineers, including both technical and soft skills training. This helps engineers to stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and to develop their skills.
  • Barclays has a strong focus on customer feedback. Engineers are regularly asked to solicit feedback from customers and to use this feedback to improve their products and services.

Overall, Barclays’ engineering culture is a strong one that is designed to support the success of its engineers. The company is committed to providing its engineers with the resources and opportunities they need to be successful.
