WFO to WFH Experience

I am working as a technical content writer in a product-based company. My interest in tech and its innovation has driven me to be here. My day starts with discovering interesting new facts, innovations, and launches.

So, I started my journey as a digital marketing intern and am now a full-time content writer. Last year I shifted to a new company that has given me a choice to work remotely, hybrid, and on-site. I chose remote due to some responsibilities and barriers.

I explore the spaces where I can share my knowledge to inform readers of relevant things. One of my friends recently suggested that GeekforGeeks accept blog entries for different categories and experiences. It was the right time and place to share my working experience.

How Working On-Site and Remotely Shaped My Career?

Nowadays, three working modes are popular, and I have worked in On-site and Remote. Each one is different from the others. All have their pros and cons. Here in this blog, I will share my experience of how working on-site was different from working remotely.

The Conventional: On-site Experience

The first is about my on-site experience. It’s a 56 days internship period at AB Infotech. I have joined here as an intern to get an understanding of one of the most trending industries, Digital Marketing. However, I want to gain knowledge about SEO i.e., Search Engine Optimization, Social Media Marketing, paid marketing, Facebook Ads, and Google Ads.

An individual who belongs to this industry is quite aware of the responsibilities of an SEO professional if you don’t know. Hence, it’s basically about driving traffic and improving the visibility of websites and apps at app stores and SERPs.

On my first day, I was nervous as I had just heard about the term Search Engine Optimization. Another reason for being nervous was that I was just preparing for the tech entrance exam and also at home for a few months.

Pros:

• The best thing about on-site was that you could get interact, clear doubts, and have discussions with your mentors F2F without delay.

• Further, when you meet different people, you learn additional stuff related to their work. It develops soft skills and interpersonal skills. You would able to communicate and work in teams without social anxiety.

Cons:

Travel, food, cloth expenses, disturbance and hard to focus, unnecessary breaks, competition burden, politics, productivity etc.

I have worked there onsite for 6-7 months. During that phase, I learned:

• The fundamentals, planning, and strategies to initiate any SEO project.

• How to follow up with the client.?

• I have worked on out-of-India projects for different industries.

My Roles and Responsibilities:

Off-page SEO, content writing for webpages, advertisements, social media, blogs, etc., to manage the work and collaboration, preparing client reports, etc.

Remote Work: The Transformation

When the pandemic struck across the world, a new norm of working was adopted: Remote Working. However, it has not disrupted our work as we do it over social apps and collaboration tools. We used to send messages, audio calls/ video calls for any sort of discussion.

Pros:

• You can extend sleeping hours.

• Saving on food, fuel & travel expenses, and house rent (in case you’re away from your hometown working in a different city).

• You get time to engage with your family and friends.

• The time waste traveling and getting ready to reach workplaces can invest in learning additional things and follow your passion and interest.

Cons:

• Although, some people have faced some issues:
• It has hit their productivity and work-life balance.
• Mental and physical health issues.
• Most of the time, people were at home and not involved in social gatherings.
• No fixed work schedule, rest, and activities have made them crazy.

I agree with this. However, managing our personal and professional lives is all in our hands. I have enjoyed both. Both have enveloped learning and shaped my career well, whether remote or on-site, improving my abilities.

Working at both companies was a great experience as the colleagues were very supportive. They have valued my contribution, input and pushed me to advance my career. During the pandemic, they never burdened me to stay and gave me enough time to adjust and adopt the new norm.

During the on-site working experience, you’re limited to conventional things, but the remote mode has pushed you to unleash the potential and discover new ways to complete the work faster and smarter.

Each shift and transformation brings some changes; the best is to adapt and evolve with it. This blog also envelops a transformation of working mode. Be it On-site or remote working, or hybrid, you need to keep a balance and fix your priorities and boundaries.
