Recently, Samsung R&D Bangalore gave me the chance to interview for a summer internship that would last two months. In my pre-final year of electrical engineering at IIT Kharagpur, the interview marked a turning point in my academic career. This is a short story about what happened.

Introducing Yourself to Get Started

The customary opening commenced the interview. I was asked to tell them about myself by the interviewer. I introduced myself, said that I was majoring in electrical engineering, and said that I was interested in software development. This was an opportunity to set the tone and make a positive first impression.

Examining My Past Experiences on My Resume

The interviewer went straight to my résumé and inquired about my prior experiences, namely my backend development internship. They were interested in the tasks I completed, the difficulties I encountered, and the knowledge I acquired. I needed to be prepared to go into great depth about my previous work and explain how it would benefit Samsung’s R&D.

Impressive Projects: Links to GitHub

We talked about the projects that are linked to GitHub in my resume. After seeing the links, the interviewer expressed special interest in a fully operational project I had live-hosted. This gave me more confidence because it demonstrated how amazing and validated my work was.

Taking on Difficult Questions: A Knowledge Test

After that, I was given some difficult questions by the interviewer regarding how to use sessions and cookies in a browser window. These questions put my technical expertise and problem-solving abilities to the test. It was an opportunity for me to show off my skills.

DSA: The Last Set of Questions

Towards the end of the interview, we discussed algorithms and data structures (DSA). I had to answer questions about sorting, XOR, binary search, and heaps. My DSA self-paced course with GeeksforGeeks helped me prepare, so I responded with confidence.

Important insights and lessons discovered

What I took out from this event is as follows:

  • It Matters to Prepare: Have a solid understanding of the principles in your subject and be aware of your previous work. Prepare to go into great depth about your experiences.
  • Display Your Original Work: Maintain a current portfolio of your work on websites such as GitHub. It demonstrates your abilities and knowledge.
  • Examine DSA: For a software development position, a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms is essential. Examine and put these topics into practice.
  • It’s All About Communication: Speak with assurance and clarity. It gives off a favourable vibe.
  • Remain assured: Have confidence in your skills and abilities. Self-assurance is important.
