NPCI Interview Experience (On-Campus) 2023

I applied in the month of September, through the Training and Placement Cell of NIT Trichy for NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India).

Eligibility Criteria was 6.0 CGPA and above with no active Backlogs, 60% in 10th and 12th, and also having only a 1-year max gap between 12th/Diploma and B.Tech.

The selection process consisted of Two Rounds: Online Assessment and 1 Round of Interview.

Online Assessment

I received the online assessment link on 24th September 2023 and my test was scheduled on 25th September 2023.

The test had a total of 4 sections.

• Section 1 was of 30 minutes which consisted of 30 questions, 10 from quantitative aptitude, 10 from logical reasoning, and 10 from verbal ability, all were MCQ Type.
• Section 2 had 20 questions of Machine learning MCQ Type and was 20 minutes.
• Section 3 was 25 minutes which was to write a passage on the specified topic of about 200-250 words. I got the topic “Plastic usage should be minimized in our daily lives”.
• Section 4 was of 1 hour which contained 2 coding questions, 1 was an easy level array question, and another was medium level tree question.

Only 2 from the entire college (out of 150) got shortlisted for the interview round.

Interview Round

I got the message of shortlisting from T&P of our college on 26th September 2023 and my interview was scheduled on 4th October 2023. I had ample time to go through CS topics, mainly DBMS, machine learning, and DSA topics during this time. The interview round was held online via MS Teams meeting.

There was a panel of 4 interviewers, including the HR. They took their turns asking questions. The questions asked from each are given as follows.

HR :

• Can you give us your brief introduction stating your degree and educational qualifications?
• Do you have any backlogs?
• Does your name mentioned in the response match your Aadhar Card?
• Do you have more than 60% in all your 10th, 12th, and BTech (HR wanted to give approximate % in Btech, just multiply CGPA by 10).

I introduced myself starting by addressing my parents, degree, main academic achievements, and hobbies. I followed it with my skills, internship experience, and the projects I have done so far. I stated my positions of responsibility in my college and other extracurricular activities I have done so far. Lastly, I concluded my introduction with a salutation.

Interviewer 1 :

• From the introduction I gave, the Interviewer asked me to describe more about my internship experience, what frameworks I worked on, and what I did within my project. I explained it in detail.
• He asked me to design an app tracker for visiting my friends in Trichy who are located at different places in the shortest distance.

Prepare the projects that you have done thoroughly, they will ask for them.

Interviewer 2:

• Implement decision trees. I knew about TensorFlow, Python and wrote a pseudocode for a decision tree model.
• Write a running program to reverse an array.

Interviewer 3:

• Write a running program to find the 2 sums in an array by using only 1 for a loop. I used hashmap and he was satisfied.
• Do you have any questions for us?

One thing I heard from others is that you can expect DBMS and SQL questions also, so be prepared for that.

I was able to answer all the questions. On the same day, I got the message that I got a full-time offer from NPCI. Both of us were selected from the college.
