National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) | Interview Experience | SDE Intern

I applied for the 2-month intern role through Training and Placement cell Birla Institue Of Technology, Mesra(BIT Mesra) in the month of September 2023. I am pursuing B.Tech in Information technology.

The eligibility criteria for the same was 60% and above(till date) in UG, 60% in class 12 and 60% in class 10, with no active backlogs. Also having only 1-year gap between 12th & BTECH. The criteria said “Candidates will be aligned role as found suitable for the either roles and should be flexible for any roles which will be assigned by the organization.”

Only Computer science(CSE) and Information Technology(IT) branch was eligible to ba a part of recruitment drive.

Online Assessment

I received the assessment link on 3rd October, 2023 and the assessment was to be held on 4th October, 2023 from 6pm. The assessment consisted of two sections:

• Aptitude+Technical+WET+Coding: Section-1 consist MCQs of Aptitute and technical(logical reasonaing) questions followed by an essay to be written in approx 250 words. Two coding questions were given at the last. The first question was Easy and second was recursion based Medium level question.
• Technical || Machine Learning: Section-2 consist of MCQs related to machine learning and Natural language processing(NLP). If you have your all basics clear about NLP and neural network this can be done easily.

Interview

On 6th October, 2023 I got a message from T&P of my college that I was shortlisted and the interviews are to be held on 16th October from 11 am. Total 14 students were shortlisted from both the branches 11(from CSE) + 3(from IT).

On 16th October a whatsapp group was formed and the meeting link was shared with the excel containing the time slots of the interview. My time slot was from 3:00 to 3:30pm. Only one interview was conducted (HR+Technical round).

There was an HR and two Interviewers:

HR:

• Introduce yourself stating your cgpa and academic background.
• Do you have any backlogs?
• Tell me about your hobbies and interests.
• Do the name you mentioned match your Aadhar card.

Interviewer:

• Tell me about the project you made?
• Are you comfortable with JavaScript? Give a brief about all the event listeners you know.
• What is the difference between Update and Modify query in MySQL? Give the syntax for the same.
• Which language are you comfortale with? (Then he asked me to share my screen)
• Write a code in C++ to outline the difference between Encapsulation and Abstraction.
• What data structures do you know?
• Tell me about the priority queue.
• How can priority queue be reversed by order of priority?
• Write a code to print the string.
• Reverse the same string.

I was able to answer all the questions. Meanwhile, the second interviewer was just watching and didn’t ask any question. HR asked “Is there any questions for us you would like to ask?”. I asked about the work-life balance and how she as a fresher managed all the stuffs at NPCI. BY now, the the interview was completed. I was very satisfied with my performance.
