IIIT-Bhubaneswar Campus experience for B.Tech CSE

My college name is the International Institute of Information Technology most likely abbreviated as IIIT located in the city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Unlike the abbreviation, it is listed as a GFTI under JOSAA. I took admitted into the B.Tech CSE program in the year 2021 through my JEE Mains score. This article will cover almost all important topics ranging from faculties and societies to placements detailed from my perspective.

Experience:

I’m currently in my third year of college and I must say it has been a mixed experience so far.

Course and Curriculum:

The course and curriculum are almost the same as in any other Indian engineering college. Since I belong to CS, the core CS concepts are well covered but there are additional electronics and soft skills subjects that seem quite irrelevant. The first 2 semesters are basics of engineering science and one needs to pay a little more attention to score well in them in order to start the journey with a good CGPA. CGPA can very easily be improved in the 2nd Yr as well but maintaining it is the major task. A CGPA above 8 is considered good and above 7.5 as average from the point of view of placements.

Societies and Student Culture:

The college has a total of 10 societies namely- Photogeeks, Cultural Society, Film Society, E-Cell, News and Publication Society, Technical and Automation of robotics society, Tech Society (including GDSC, MLSA, and Programming Society), art society (Paracosm), Sports society (Krida). The year is always filled with events organized by the societies on every notable occasion and festival. All societies have their own functions and responsibilities but all unite once a year to witness the annual techno-cultural fest – Advaita. The fest conducts a number of hackathons and competitions of all types- dance, music, art, coding, robot race, etc. The days are filled with star nights featuring stars like Asees Kaur, Arjun Kanungo, Parashara, Swati Sachdeva, DJ Carnivore, etc.

Placements:

On-campus placements in our college have been decent ranging from 3 LPA to 39 LPA as of the 2023 batch. Companies like Media.net, Oracle, Turtlemint, Siemens Healthcare, Mckinsey, IBM, etc take part in the drive. The statistics are improving every year. But what excites me is the off-campus achievements extending to Microsoft, Amazon, and even Google.

The globe is full of opportunities and grabbing the right ones can give you wings. The college may always not provide the best opportunities but it surely provides an amazing peer group, seniors, and a great coding culture.
