Hey folks

I did my graduation from NIT Bhopal and joined ExxonMobil as an Integrity Engineer. For those who don’t know about the company let me tell you, it’s a leading oil and gas manufacturing company, comes in Fortune 3 after Walmart and Amazon in the world. So I’ll be sharing my interview experience for the same.

I majored in mechanical and worked on the development of a humanoid robot as my major project which was the topic of my whole interview. I was interviewed on 16th August 2022. The interview started by, as usual, telling us something about yourself. There were 3 members in the panel as ExxonMobil conducted only one interview (after gd) to know your technical, behavioural and communicational skills.

As far as I remember, it took 15 minutes to judge my technical knowledge where I explained to them the winter training I had done, minor project, research paper writing and ongoing major project. From there they asked questions from Strength of Materials and fortunately, I was able to answer all the questions satisfactorily. One of them which I could remember is: What are the structures that you see in your real life and how do they fail?

After technical questions, they asked me a guesstimate of the number of traffic signals in my home town. I was able to give 3-4 assumptions that I’ll take care of to get an estimate of the same.

Then, they pointed out team player in my CV and started asking questions like:

  •  What would you do if a person in your team is too aggressive and does not do any work?
  •  What do you think about the advantages of working in a team?
  •  Is there any case when you have pitched an idea which proved to be successful during your project?
  • We don’t make robots here, whatever you learnt will not work here, then why should we choose you and why you wanted to join ExxonMobil?
  •  We have different roles like technical, management etc, which role would you like to prefer?
  • You have so much patience, tell us a case when you have scolded someone. (Listening to this question, every one of us literally started laughing.)

Finally, it reached the end. They asked me if I have any doubts or questions related to the company. I asked how ExxonMobil is able to maintain its position in such a competitive market that is all over the world. And all three of them one by one explained and answered my question. Instead of telling just in a few seconds, they actually took time to clear the concept. And that is something I liked the most instead of being straight, they put their views in a manner as of we all are at the same level discussing a topic.

Overall, I literally enjoyed the whole interview process. It was above my expectations. The interviewers were just amazing. What I observed during the process was they give more importance to behavioural and communication skills than technical ones. Hence, make sure to improve them.

My interview took 45 minutes to get over. After an hour, we got the results. I’ll say, for people preparing core, it is one of the best companies to work in. Feeling proud to be a part of this.

Wishing you the best of luck, may you get your dream company. ✌
