I am pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering at Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University. Throughout my journey from the first year to the third year, my college experience was a mix of challenges and growth, with the pandemic affecting our academic landscape.

About the University

Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University established by Divyangjan Sashaktikaran Vibhag Uttar Pradesh, Government of Uttar Pradesh came up by an Ordinance dated August 29, 2008, later replaced by U.P. Act No. 1 of 2009, dated February 19, 2009, and U.P. Act No. 24 of 2011, dated November 28, 2011.

The first University of its kind, which also provides accessible and quality higher education to challenged students, in a completely barrier-free environment.

Nestled in a sprawling campus, the university boasted state-of-the-art facilities including solar panels, modern classrooms, advanced laboratories, an amphitheater, a sports wing, an extensive library, a recreation room, and a placement cell.

My Experience

My three years journey at DSMNRU was a rollercoaster of experiences. Embarking on my college journey, Beginning in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, the transition to completely online classes was a challenge. Adapting to virtual learning required self-discipline and time management, but it also gave me a chance to develop these skills early on. Despite the initial challenges, both students and teachers adapted, fostering engaging virtual learning environments.

The subsequent years saw a transition to offline classes, and then the new era of college life started finally. New friendships formed, and interactions with seniors helped me assimilate.

Second Year

As the pandemic period got over we had already invested our one year of college and now we had our juniors too. Also, our real Computer Science and Engineering started with the subjects like Web Development, DSA, DBMS, DAA, etc. What I really felt in this year was that Teachers only focus on theories and completing the course ASAP which resulted in a lack of practical knowledge. But with the help of some seniors and YouTube channels, I worked on it.

Third year

As I was promoted to 3rd year of BTech, all facilities got changed also the subjects got leveled up now we have subjects like Artificial Intelligence, Data science, also introduced with python, Java languages, Automata, Neural Networks, Compiler Design, etc. With new faculty, it was hard to adapt their learning at once but soon I got easy with it. It was really nice to learn some new emerging subjects. But still, there was some lack of practical knowledge.

Club community Experience

As the pandemic period got over and we got a chance to attend classes offline. I got to know that it was not the same University life that I had expected to experience. There were no coding clubs or any other clubs or communities for the BTech course. So I and a group of people which was a mixture of all BTech branches decided to take the initiative for establishing a club that is not only the coding club but it also includes clubs that will be beneficial for all the branches of BTech. And finally, at the start of the Third year, we successfully established a club community named Techtranzit. But we were unaware of the university politics and unknowingly Techtranzit became the issue of this dirty politics. But still with the support of the team, we stood together in all ups and downs.

We lost some friendships in between we were boycotted by our class students (in the feeling of jealousy, I must say). But still, we haven’t lost our confidence and willpower. And successfully made available a club community to our juniors which we haven’t got.

Throughout this rollercoaster journey, I learned to embrace change, adapt, and find opportunities in every situation. My campus experience taught me the value of resilience and the importance of a supportive academic environment. While the pandemic posed challenges, it also nurtured a sense of unity and innovation among the students and faculty.
