Pop!_OS is a free and open-source Linux system based on Ubuntu and features the COSMIC Gnome desktop environment. System76, an American Linux computer vendor, created the distribution. Pop!_OS is designed to be included with System76 PCs, although it may also be downloaded and installed on most other computers. Pop!_OS includes complete support for both AMD and Nvidia GPUs out of the box. It is regarded as a simple distribution to install for gaming, owing to its built-in GPU support. Pop!_OS includes disc encryption by default, simplified window and workspace management, keyboard shortcuts for navigation, and built-in power management profiles. The most recent releases also include packages that make it simple to set up TensorFlow and CUDA. Pop!_OS is largely maintained by System76, with the release version source code posted on GitHub. It is not community-driven, unlike many other Linux distributions, however outside programmers can contribute, read, and alter the source code. They can even create unique ISO photographs and resell them under a different brand.

PoP!_OS vs Ubuntu Desktop Environment

By default, Pop!_OS employs the GNOME desktop environment. It’s far more polished than Ubuntu and has a purely GNOME feel to it. It runs on a customized version of GNOME with features like window stacking, complex workspaces, auto-tiling, and extensive customization.


GNOME is also pre-installed by default on Ubuntu. GNOME has a nice feel and look, but it doesn’t enable as much flexibility in Ubuntu as it does in other Linux distributions. So, congratulations, PoP! In comparison to Ubuntu, _OS feels more current and energetic.


PoP!_OS vs Ubuntu Bloatware

Pop!_OS has fewer pre-installed programs, hence there is no bloatware. It also has its own official PPA with practically all apps that can be installed using the APT command. Flatpak packages are also available at the PoP Shop.


Unlike Pop!_OS, Ubuntu comes pre-installed with a slew of useless programs that degrade performance and user experience. It does, however, provide a minimal installation option during installation, which comes with the most required programs. When comparing the two distros,Pop!_OS appears to be superior to Ubuntu.


PoP!_OS vs Ubuntu System and Hardware Performance

Pop!_OS only uses minimal OS and hardware data and does not collect or retain any user data. It is mostly targeted at current hardware. 2GB of RAM (4GB suggested), 20GB of storage, and a 64-bit CPU are the minimum system requirements.


Ubuntu has low system requirements, although it does gather data from users (you can turn it off in settings). A minimum of 2GB RAM, 25GB storage, and a 2GHz dual-core processor are required.

PoP!_OS vs Ubuntu SImilarities

Pop!_OS is based on Ubuntu, therefore there are a lot of similarities, such as the fact that they both utilize the APT package manager to install software, that they both come with the GNOME desktop environment pre-installed, and that new versions are published around the same time.
