Tamang began his political career in 1994 when he was elected to the Sikkim Legislative Assembly as a member of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF). He served in various ministerial positions in the SDF government, including Minister for Education, Minister for Health, and Minister for Home.

Kazi Lhendup Dorjee was the first chief minister of Sikkim. He was born on 11 October 1904 in Pakyong, East Sikkim, Sikkim. He served as first chief minister of Sikkim from 16 May 1974 to 17 August 1979. He founded the Sikkim National Congress in 1962.

He is also known as Lhendup Dorji or Lhendup Dorji Khangsarpa.Dorjee became CM of Sikkim after the state’s union with India. During this period, he laid the foundation for Sikkim’s integration into India while respecting its unique identity and culture. He actively participated in negotiations and political processes that led to Sikkim’s association with India in 1975. Dorjee was known for his dedication to promoting harmony and understanding between different communities in Sikkim.
