Hi everyone! I am an undergraduate student pursuing my final year of B. Tech in the ECE branch at IIT Guwahati. Bajaj Auto came to our campus to recruit for two roles:

  1. Graduate Trainee Engineer (GTE) 2024 for B. Tech
  2. Post Graduate Trainee Engineer (GTE) 2024 for M. Tech

Both roles opened only for CSE, ECE, EEE, and Mech branches.
The CPI cutoff is kept at 7.0. The whole recruitment process happened in 2 rounds- Test and Interview.

Test:

It was held on the L&T EduTech Assessment platform.

The test comprised 45 questions which included all the core concepts of ECE like Control systems, Signals and systems, Digital electronics, and Analog electronics, and was held for 1 hour and 5 minutes.
The questions were branch-specific.
The result of test round 1 is given instantly after the completion of time. If you crossed the threshold, you got a chance to write a behavioral assessment which has 90 questions, and the time allotted was 45 minutes. Otherwise, a thank you page will appear saying you are disqualified.
The platform is easier to access and navigation is possible.

10 students from ECE and EEE were shortlisted. A total of 37 out of 146 students got shortlisted for both roles from all branches.

INTERVIEW:

Interviews were taken offline at our campus. They gave an opportunity to appear for SDE based interviews to those who submitted SDE resumes (even though their branch is EEE and role they applied for is GET).
They asked me to give a brief introduction about me and then the interview started.

My interview questions are:
As I have done projects on microprocessors and Arduino, my 1st question is

  • What is the difference between a microprocessor and a microcontroller?

Then he went into my key courses where I mentioned Analog electronics, Digital electronics, Systems and signals and Control systems. He touched upon signal processing from here.

  • What is FFT?

I answered this by using the reference of DFT. So, he then asked:

  • What is Fourier transform? Why do we use this?
  • Is it only needed for amplitude analysis? How is it useful for phase analysis?

Then he went into Control systems.

  • What is the Bode plot and its relation with stability?
  • What is the Gain margin? How would you increase/decrease it?

Then he asked me if I had practised Analog circuits and am I comfortable with them. I said yes.

  • Design a constant current source using a transistor. What will be the circuit diagram?

As I haven’t answered this, he asked one more question (to give a hint)

  • Using a series resistance configuration of the transistor, design a circuit to get 5V output from 12V input.
    • In the below circuit if we put Vcc=12V and try to manipulate the current such that Vc=5V then we can get the required design.
    • He then asked me to insert a Zener diode in the circuit such that the action wouldn’t change.
      • This is possible if we replace R1 or R2 with a Zener diode. Then, our current also becomes constant. So, we prepared a constant current source.

Then he asked me whether we learnt Power electronics or not. I replied No (it’s only in the curriculum of EEE in our college). He said fine and then asked whether I had any questions for him?
After answering my question about projects in the company, he concluded the interview.
I got disqualified in Round 1. For those who cleared round 1 had HR round.
A total of 10 students out of 37 shortlisted got an offer for both roles.

Tip: Should be thorough with each concept, course and project mentioned in the CV.

Thank you.

ALL THE BEST!!!
