Hey everyone!

Today, I’ll be telling you about my interview experience with Accenture for the role of Associate Software Engineer as a part of my on-campus hiring process.

So, Accenture visited our college in November end last year. There were openings for two roles – ASE and FSE. The interview process for both the roles was same, and in the end, it was up to the interviewer to recommend us for FSE roles.

Eligibility Criteria: No active back-logs, CGPA > 7.5, valid PAN card

Read on to learn about the hiring process:

Round 1: Cognitive and Technical Coding Assessment

We received our admit cards for the process on 29 November and the assessment was scheduled in our college campus. The platform was a Secured Web Browser of the company itself, and a representative of the company visited the campus to ensure smooth conduction of the assessment.

The assessment was divided into 2 sections:

General Aptitude:

This section included almost 60 sections which had to be solved in under 60 minutes. The questions comprised basic quantitative analysis, verbal reasoning, puzzles, logical reasoning, and analytical skills. If you have a grasp on solving such questions of easy to medium difficulty, this section is a piece of cake for you. Although the accuracy of the questions matters, so confidence is the key to this.

Please Note: The aptitude round may sound easy, but 60-70% of students get eliminated from this round only. So, be cautious in that round.

Coding:

Now, after submitting your Aptitude Assessment questions, if your score meets the minimum cutoff (unspecified) then, you will be redirected to the coding question screen. But, if you fail to clear the cutoff for the previous assessment, then you will not be able to move ahead and are hence, eliminated from the process.

In the coding round, you are given 2 questions of easy level(if you practice normal DSA questions daily). My questions included strategic use of switch case and a question that involved performing various functions on a vector as per the requirement. You are given around 45 minutes to solve these questions.

Please Note: The test cases are not in-built. You may have written the correct code, but if you run it, the compiler may give you an error. To rectify this, it’s important that for every code compilation, you give custom test cases. Then only, it will compile successfully.

Round 2: Communication Round

After this round, almost 20% of students were left. We were given 48 hours to complete the Communication Round from 5 December to 7 December 2023. Now, this round is not eliminatory. But, to move ahead with your candidature, you must participate in this test.

It comprises 6 sections- Listening, Speaking, Q/A, Rephrasing sentences, Story Telling, and answering an open-ended question. All these sections were very easy and if you know basic English, you will be able to move forward without any problems.

Please Note: You must use a good-quality headphone and a mic for your communication round. Even the slightest sound from your mic can disrupt your round, and you will not be able to move forward. In my case, I used a Bluetooth headphone. I was able to hear the sound coming from their end, but my mic was not enabled in their software and my voice was not going into their interface. Because of this, I had to restart the test several times. My advice for you is to not use Bluetooth headphones, instead, use speakers with lead or simply your laptop’s speaker and mic.

Round 3: Virtual Interview

On December 8, we all received an email from them to confirm our interview slot. There were 2 days in and 8 batches for each day from which we could select our slots. After selecting the slots, the final day came.

My slot was from 10:20 AM and my interview began at 10:40 AM. You must stay in the lobby for as long as 45-60 minutes before contacting any supervisor since many of my classmates faced this issue.

My interview began on their platform(it was not MS Teams or Meet) and again, my Bluetooth mic was not working. I was able to hear the interviewer but, I was not audible to him. So, I had to close the call and rejoin it. Finally, it began and the interviewer introduced himself, and likewise, I did so. He was quite friendly and started asking me the following questions:

  1. Why do you want to join Accenture?
  2. What is your final year project?
  3. What does your project aim to solve and the workflow?
  4. Have you ever been in a leadership position?
  5. If your group is quite scattered and teamwork is not there, what are the measures you could take?
  6. Have you ever organized something in your college?
  7. Describe a situation where you saw a silver lining in your problems.
  8. What do you like to do apart from coding and academics?
  9. Previous internship experience?
  10. Are there any special courses you have done?

I was surprised that the interview was not completely technical and focused more on soft skills. But, indeed, the interview went nice and it lasted for about 30 minutes. He gave me positive feedback and I was asked to leave the room as he had other candidates to attend to.

Please Note: Do not hesitate to ask questions from the interviewee. Even if there are technical glitches, do not be stressed, be patient. They understand the network conditions and allow you to take your time.

Verdict: Selected!

Tips: Do not be stressed about your lack of technical skills. Accenture values learning and allows you to grow into the position. However, you need to have good conversational skills and a basic understanding of what the company expects from you. Even if there are technical issues (there were a lot of them in my case), do not be stressed. Just calm down and rejoin the link or wait for someone to reach out to you.
