In 2020, at VJTI College, a memorable campus experience unfolded as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the world and forced us to adapt to new ways of conducting placements. One such instance was when Pristine Infotech, a renowned company, arrived on our virtual campus.

As the pandemic began to surge, physical interaction was replaced with virtual connections. The placement process commenced with a telephonic round, marking the beginning of an unprecedented virtual placement journey. Students eagerly prepared themselves, not only for the technical challenges that lay ahead but also for the unique experience that awaited them.

Round 1: Telephonic

The telephonic round commenced with the sound of ringing phones echoing across the campus. Nervous yet excited, students eagerly answered the calls, ready to showcase their skills and secure a coveted position at Pristine Infotech. Conversations took place through the virtual medium, bridging the distance between the candidates and the interviewers.

Round 2: Technical

The tech interview was designed to evaluate the student’s understanding and practical application of their technical knowledge. The interviewers posed questions that tested their proficiency in programming concepts, data structures, algorithms, and design principles. Students were expected to showcase their expertise in Java, demonstrating their ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.

Furthermore, the interviewers delved into the realm of operating systems, examining the students’ comprehension of processes, memory management, file systems, and synchronization mechanisms. They probed the candidates’ understanding of core operating system concepts and their ability to apply them to real-world scenarios.

The inclusion of an aptitude assessment added another layer of evaluation, testing the students’ logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, and problem-solving skills. This component aimed to gauge their ability to analyze and solve complex problems efficiently, a crucial trait for success in the technology industry.

Round 3: Coding and problem-solving

Basic Java questions were asked based on an array, multi-threading, Junit testing, and core concept were asked related to Java. There were DSA questions easy level.

Round 4: Behavioral and HR Interview

The last round was the HR round and the interviewer delved into my previous experiences, teamwork skills, and how I handle challenges. Some of the questions asked included:

  • Can you share an example of a time when you faced a conflict within a team and how you resolved it?
  • Tell me something about your project and what did you learn from that
  • How do you prioritize tasks and manage your time effectively?
  • Where do you see yourself after 5 yrs?

The interviewer’s friendly demeanor and efforts to create a comfortable atmosphere fostered an environment conducive to open and honest conversation. It allowed me to share my experiences, perspectives, and insights with ease.

Throughout the interview, the emphasis was placed on assessing my ability to handle real-world scenarios, work collaboratively in a team, and demonstrate effective problem-solving skills. I shared specific instances where I encountered conflicts within a team and elaborated on the steps I took to resolve them through open communication, active listening, and finding common ground.
