Synopsis – The new version 99.0.4844.84 is available for update on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The company also said, “We also want to thank all the security researchers who helped us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from reaching stable channels.”

A new bug hits Google and Microsoft Edge due to which Google is urging macOS, Linux, and Windows users to update to the new version 99.0.4844.84. After finding out new vulnerabilities the companies have warned their users and they have also highlighted that Google is already aware that the exploit for CVE-2022-1096 exists and is being utilized in the wild, thus the company is working on it. Hence, it is very important for all Chrome users to update their version ASAP.

What is CVE-2022-1096?

Although there is not much information regarding CVE-2022-1096 it is said that it is a “Type Confusion in V8,” and refers to a JavaScript engine that has been employed by Chrome. However, it is not good to hold back such information when already things are vulnerable and being exploited by hackers. It is also known that Google always wants to protect its users therefore any technical information is not revealed by them in the first go. 

The firm also said in a statement, 

“We will also retain restrictions if the bug exists in a third-party library that other projects similarly depend on, but haven’t yet fixed.” 

The new version 99.0.4844.84 is available for update on Windows, Mac, and Linux. The company also said, 

“We also want to thank all the security researchers who helped us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from reaching stable channels.” 

In order to download that update on your device, you can tap on the three dots present in the top-right corner of Chrome, which will help you to trigger the update. 

Apart from Google, Microsoft Edge also issued a notice that they have also released an update (99.0.1150.55) for the newer version on the same day, where the users can be saved from the bug. At the beginning of this year, Google from its side issues a big security update for its users, in which the company rolled out 37 fixes for Mac, Windows, and Linux. Also, as per Google in the latest Chrome browser, there have been 22 types of security fixes, which will help in keeping the data of the users safe and increase privacy.
