L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad, endearingly known as LDCE, stands as a pioneering institution, established on 20th June 1948, as one of the earliest engineering colleges in India. Its mission has been to provide quality higher education in various engineering fields, and it has grown remarkably since its inception.LDCE is a premier government engineering institute in Gujarat, focused on delivering higher education, research, and training in the domain of engineering and technology. The institute is affiliated with Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad, and administered by the Department of Technical Education, Government of Gujarat.

Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility criteria for admissions depend on whether you are a regular student (12th – Science) or a lateral entry (D2D) student.

  • For Regular Students:– Regular students must appear for the GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test), which is a 120-mark exam covering physics, mathematics, and chemistry, with a -0.25 marking penalty.- Alternatively, candidates can take the JEE Main exam.
  • For D2D Students:– D2D students are evaluated based on their scores(STPI) from the last year of their diploma program (3rd year).

Application Process:

Regular and lateral entry students both apply for admission through the ACPC portal.

Every year, the portal releases deadlines for the entire process, including its sub-rounds and various stages.

In-Process:

The admission process involves three rounds for both regular and lateral entry students. These include:

  1. Choice filling – Mock round
  2. Choice filling – Final round
  3. Choice filling – Reshuffling round

Regular Students: Upon registration, the ACPC formulates a state final merit ranking system for candidates who have appeared for the GUJCET and JEE exams. This ranking system is based on a composite evaluation, with 50% of the ranking derived from the student’s performance in the 12th-grade science stream and the remaining 50% from the GUJCET exam scores. Notably, government colleges allocate 95% of their seats based on GUJCET rankings and the remaining 5% based on JEE rankings. In contrast, private colleges distribute 50% of their seats according to GUJCET results, and the other 50% based on JEE outcomes.

D2D Students: D2D students’ merit ranking is determined by their respective universities, leveraging the Standard Test Practice Index (STPI) as a foundational criterion. This ranking system enables the anticipation of cutoff marks based on the seat availability of specific colleges. For instance, LDCE typically offers approximately 40-41 seats each year for lateral entry students in the Computer Science and Information Technology (CS-IT) program. These seats encompass both reserved categories and general admission slots.

Seat Allotment:

Seat allotment is based on your merit rank, cut-off, and your preferences. Mock rounds serveseats as a practice run, offering students a hands-on experience with the admission process. It’s like a trial run, helping students become familiar with the process and providing insights into their chances of securing admission to their preferred colleges. Then there are the first and final rounds. The third round considers vacancies after seat confirmations in the second round.

Fee Payment & Scholarships, Admission Confirmation, and Reporting:

After receiving a seat, students confirm their admission by paying a nominal token fee. Government colleges typically have no fee for girls and a minimal fee for boys, while private colleges charge more. Various scholarships and financial aid opportunities are available, and detailed information can be found on websites like Buddy4study. After confirmation, students can download their admission letter from the ACPC portal and report to the college with the required documents to secure their seats.

Orientation in College:

Upon admission, students participate in an orientation and induction program at LDCE. The orientation is followed by a 15-day induction program, which includes creative activities.

  • For D2D students, an orientation in the Computer Science department was introduced in 2023, enhancing their understanding of campus clubs and connections, department facilities, and more.

Placement Opportunities at L.D. College:

L.D. College has an outstanding on-campus placement record. The institution has a dedicated placement cell that hones students’ soft and coding skills. Notable companies like IBM, Adani, Reliance, Ford, TATA, Accenture, Wipro Argusoft, GNFC and Intuit visit the campus. The average package for the Computer IT branch is an impressive 10 to 12 LPA.In summary, L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad, offers a comprehensive admission process, an enriching orientation, and excellent placement opportunities, making it a sought-after institution for engineering education in Gujarat.
