Synopsis – The feature was discovered by Alessandro Paluzzi, who is a mobile developer, known for reverse engineering apps in order to find out the traces of upcoming features. He has now found out that Instagram might be working on the feature to add voice notes as an option for story replies.

Meta-owned photo and video sharing platform Instagram is allegedly going to come up with a new update and this time it’s not updated in the feed or direct messages, rather it’s in the Instagram stories. Now interestingly, the platform will let the users reply to stories with voice notes.

The feature was discovered by Alessandro Paluzzi, who is a mobile developer, known for reverse engineering apps in order to find out the traces of upcoming features. He has now found out that Instagram might be working on the feature to add voice notes as an option for story replies.

Paluzzi took to the microblogging platform to make the announcement about the new feature. He shared a screenshot of an Instagram story that had a microphone icon attached with the field of the reply. He tweeted, “#Instagram is working on the ability to reply to Stories with voice messages.”

The development comes while recently Instagram has introduced the feature of a chronological feed. However, the feature existed 5 years ago but the photo and video sharing platform had moved to the feed ranked by an algorithm that would show content as per the interests of the users.

Although, after criticism and the fact that the algorithmically-ranked feature wasn’t liked by most of the Instagram users, the company decided to bring the previously existed version back. The users can turn the chronological feed option by clicking on the top left menu and selecting from ‘Following’ or Favorites’ as per their convenience.

Until now, users could reply to stories through reactions with emojis and text, and the option is available at the bottom of the stories while viewing them. Even GIFs can be used as a reply to stories. Instagram recently, had also introduced a feature for users to like stories while viewing. The likes on stories are only visible to the person who has shared the story and the one who has liked it.

Meanwhile, according to the reports, Instagram hasn’t released any official statement, however talking to some media outlets, it has said that as it continues to test new features, out of which few make it to the app for the users actually, this is possible that this is one of the features undergoing the test. But, if introduced, the feature will help in clearing out the chaos in the inboxes.
