How to install PlayOnLinux on Ubuntu

PlayOnLinux is a software program with a graphical user interface that allows us to run Windows applications on Linux. PlayOnLinux is built on Wine, a well-known program that allows us to run and utilize Windows applications on Linux. Wine has no graphical user interface. As a result, configuring Wine and running Windows apps is a little more difficult. By offering a graphical user interface, PlayOnLinux simplifies Wine’s complexity, allowing you to simply install Windows applications on Linux. In this article, we will be installing the PlayOnLinux application on Ubuntu operating system.
Installation of PlayOnLinux on Ubuntu
There are two methods to install PlayOnLinux on Ubuntu:
- Installing PlayOnLinux from Ubuntu Software Center
- Installing PlayOnLinux from the standard repository
Let’s go through both the installation methods on Ubuntu.
Method 1: Installing PlayOnLinux from Ubuntu Software Center
Step 1: Open the Ubuntu Software Center.
Step 2: Search for the PlayOnLinux application in the search box.
Step 3: Click on the Install button to actually install the application in the system.
Step 4: Search for the application in the Activities Panel and open the application by clicking on the icon.
Step 5: We have successfully opened the PlayOnLinux application.
Method 2: Installing PlayOnLinux from the standard repository
Step 1: Update the repositories by executing the below command in the terminal.
sudo apt update
Step 2: Install the PlayOnLinux application through apt by executing the below command.
sudo apt install playonlinux
Step 3: Check or Verify the installation of the PlayOnLinux application by checking its version.
playonlinux --version
Step 4: Open the application from the Activities Panel.
Step 5: We have opened the application successfully.
Step 6: We can get multiple games from this application. Below we are downloading the Minecraft game Client.
