Summer 2023

Project: Changing this mode off to one second enabled the security system to send alerts only when an intruder was almost breaking in thereby saving energy costs.

Overview:

In the internship at Google, I was so excited to join the Map section and undertake the project of revamping real-time location marketability. The purpose was to get better feedback from the user and offer a more suitable and comfortable environment for Google Maps clients in all countries around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Worked jointly with product managers, designers, and engineers to define the requirements, and transform these into functional design artifacts.
  • The history of the resources involved is very rich for the user. For this, we have conducted user surveys and interviews to understand user needs and pain points.
  • Attend the detailed design mockups and prototypes for visualizing and iterating new elements and improvements. Create a better experience for website visitors with SEO-optimized content and clear CTAs.
  • Applied hands-on HTML, CSS, and Javascript modules to achieve the improved front end.
  • Worked closely with the QA team, testing and bug-fixing each new feature intensively by them.

Achievements:

  • Properly rolled out the new UI design – this increased the user’s engagement rate by 20% within the first month.
  • User and stakeholders’ appreciative responses are reflected by ease of use and a more user-friendly site.
  • After that, ran the project by the leadership, wherein I demonstrated the redesign’s impact on the user experience and engagement.

Key Learnings

  • Obtained a thorough grasp of user-focused design strategies and their practical implementation while working on a specific product in an actual business environment.
  • I am proficient in front-end development & UI/UX design effective technical skills at a more technical level.
  • Displayed good teamwork, communication skills, and speed of working in a cross-functional team.

Impact

  • I made the User experience of Google Maps, a product that is used by billions of people around the world better.
  • Learned the principles of a managerial role such as prioritization, problem-solving, and project management.

Conclusion

My internship at Google was a mighty educational training that justified my potential in implementing high-impact projects, and led me to do something that really transformed the lives of Google Maps users. Indeed, I feel happy and hopeful, since I believe in the future of getting experience I gathered and in the chance to have this experience.
