Introduction

As a software development intern at UnoTag, I had a rewarding experience that I’d want to share in this post. I’ll also give readers a peek into the chances I had for professional development and learning during that time. I had the honor of working in an innovative and diverse atmosphere that promoted personal growth while I was a part of one of the emerging SaaS organizations.

Learning and Growth Experience

I spent four months as a software development intern at the start-up UnoTag. It was a remarkable voyage full of opportunities for personal development, priceless lessons learned, and lovely memories. Even though it was a distant internship, I felt a mixture of excitement and trepidation on the first day. I had no prior knowledge of the corporate setting, business culture, or operational procedures. The CEO, CTO, and other colleagues, on the other hand, were encouraging and made me feel wonderful right away. They helped me grasp the company’s beliefs, objectives, and position within the team as they kindly led me through the first onboarding process.

One of the positive aspects of the organization that has impressed me throughout my four months of employment is its dedication to the personal development of its employees. The CEO was incredibly kind and down to earth. He was always available to mentor and support each employee’s advancement, whether it be professional or personal. The more experienced colleagues were always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, and impart their wealth of experience. Their involvement as my mentors was important in helping me advance professionally. Teamwork was respected and promoted in the workplace, and that has always felt comfortable.

The company also used to host what we used to refer to as a “Team-Building Meeting” every Saturday where all of the employees, regardless of whether they came from an IT background or a non-IT one, were allowed to participate. We used to play games like Word Guessing, Scribble, and many others. It was a highly effective technique to boost employee interaction and support their development.

Responsibilities

My responsibilities as Software Development Intern during my tenure.

  • Actively worked with ReactJs, React Dnd HTML5 backend, and touch backend for a gamification-saas project.
  • Made minor UI enhancements to the official website.
  • Firebase Message Delivery.
  • Build a Drag and Drop game for a Client.
  • Researched and documented channel partners (Variform, OneSignal, Twilio, Mailgun, SendGrid, Firebase, WhatsApp etc.) of MOK.
  • Writing clean and efficient code using programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ReactJs.
  • Building user-friendly and responsive front-end interfaces to enhance the user experience.
  • Collaborating with the design team to get aligned with the development requirements to design, develop, and deploy web applications.
  • Integrating third-party libraries, APIs, and services to extend the functionality of the applications.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  1. Assistance and Support: Since it was my first Internship, I got exposure to real world and how things actually work in the corporate world. Everyone out there made the place comfortable for me to work in. Guiding at each and every phase wherever I was stuck and helped me to grow professionally enhancing my technical skills and improving the quality I deliver to the organization.
  2. Time and location flexibility: Being a college student it was difficult for me to align the timings of my internship and my college but due to the flexible timings and cooperative staff at UnoTag I was able to manage both. And the remote work facility was cherry on the cake.
  3. Multiple hats: One of the Best things about startup is that it lets you wear Multiple Hats. You aren’t bound to a single role, you can creatively take up different roles thus leading to a good personal growth.

Cons:

  1. The team’s communication was incoherent, which contributed to certain project timeline delays. For instance, it was a demanding and arduous process to synchronize the criteria of clients and designers.
  2. Within the corporate structure, there are few prospects for career growth and advancement.
  3. The Initial pay is quite modest.

Overall, it has been a good experience for me to work as a software development intern at UnoTag. An environment of support and collaboration where ideas are valued and communication is open has been established by the business culture and team dynamics. I like the possibilities for growth and learning that are offered since they have allowed me to develop my talents. I’ve been able to maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle by focusing on work-life balance, having flexible hours, and having options for remote work. I value the general feedback and thought that has gone into my experience with this organization.
