The TCS NQT test for our college was conducted on January 15, offering three roles: Ninja, Digital, and Prime. The overall difficulty level was average, with numerical and logical ability questions slightly above average in complexity, in my opinion. Coding questions were focused on 2D matrices, with one being relatively easy and the other of medium difficulty, albeit a bit tricky. Fortunately, I managed to solve both coding questions during my slot.

After about a month, the results were out, and I was selected for the Prime interview. On March 18, I appeared for the interview, which comprised a panel consisting of a technical expert, a manager, and an HR representative.

18th March – The Final Interview Day

  • How did the interview start?
Upon entering the panel, I greeted the members, and the technical interviewer promptly asked for my resume, to which I complied. Following that, he handed me a paper with a question where I needed to set all elements above the diagonal in a matrix to zero. Despite understanding the logic, I struggled to write the correct solution on that particular day.
  • What were the technical questions like during the interview?
The technical portion included tasks such as writing a functional component in React on paper and implementing a simple “Hello” using the useState Hook in React. Unfortunately, I made some errors in my code, such as omitting the return keyword, which likely impacted my performance negatively. Additionally, I was questioned about my projects, state lifting in React, and implementing routing in React, to which I provided satisfactory responses. However, when asked about providers and storing data in the browser, I stumbled and couldn’t provide adequate answers.
  • How did the interview progress after the technical questions?
After the technical segment, the HR representative requested my documents and mark sheet, while the manager inquired if I would be willing to consider the Ninja role, to which I expressed my willingness. The HR then proceeded to ask a few more questions.
  • How long did the interview last?
The entire interview lasted for about 20 minutes, notably shorter than the interviews of other candidates in my panel, which typically lasted around 40 minutes.
  • What was the outcome of the interview?
Unfortunately, I received a rejection status following the interview.
