I am sharing my interview experience with Sopra Banking Software for the designation of SDE-1(earlier known as Engineer Trainee). The eligibility for the drive was that the candidate must be from CSE/IT branch with 80% and above in 10th/12th and 70% and above in B.Tech. Around 90-95 students from our college were eligible for the drive.

Round 1(Technical Round):

  • The first round comprised 30 MCQ questions from topics i.e, DBMS, MySQL, OOPS, C/C++, Data Structures, Output based, and spot the error. (Test Duration: 30 minutes).
  • The cut-off to qualify for the next round was 24 questions (80% and above) must be correct.
  • Out of 95 only 8-10 were qualified for the next round.

Tips: Since, Sopra always doesn’t compromise with the cut-off, regardless of the number of candidates. I will suggest keeping practicing for the MCQs based on these topics from GeeksForGeeks and any other sites.

Round 2(Aptitude Round):

  • This round is highly elimination round. Also, this is the one where most of the candidates got confused about its format.
  • The second round comprised 11 questions which will be based on the algorithm-based flowchart having some values in an array and based on the iterations in the flowchart, we have to determine the value for the specific index in the array. (Test Duration: 75 minutes).
  • You have to provide an answer in the text box. There will be no options.
  • The cut-off to qualify for the next round was 9 questions (80% and above) must be correct.
  • Out of those 8-10, I was the only one who cleared the round.

Tips:

  • This round requires a lot of attention and focus.
  • Any miscalculation and misinformation will lead to the wrong value and might eat up a huge chunk of time.
  • So be patient and don’t panic. Focus on the flowchart and solve it carefully.
  • You can practice some questions from PrepInsta, Q4Interview, etc. Remember, these questions are not MCQs based so try to solve questions without looking into the options.
  • I am providing a link to refer to these types of questions: https://q4interview.com/ques_ans.php?c=150&page=1

Round 3(Group Discussion):

  • This round is a sort of non-elimination round.
  • That time there were not so many candidates to conduct this round, so the recruiters skipped this round.

Round 4(Technical Interview):

  • In the beginning, the interviewer introduced himself first and asked me to introduce myself.
  • After that, we had discussions about my internships, my personal projects, and my final year project, about their technical stack, challenges I faced during the development of all these, and how I manage team conflicts as I was leading the team during my final year project.
  • After that, he asked me to prepare the flowchart based on the conditions he provided and we had a discussion based on that.
  • After that, he asked me about some of the topics like DBMS, Cloud, Mainframes, OOPS, etc (You can tell him if you are not comfortable with any of the topics). After that, we discussed some of the real-life problems and situations with their possible approaches.
  • That interview lasted for around 1:15 to 1:20 hours (Yeah, sit with a water bottle near you ????).
  • I cleared the Technical Interview and moved to the last round.
  • Tips: The very basic thing, mention only those things in your resume and in your introduction, in which you’re comfortable. They discuss everything you mentioned in your resume or in your introduction.
  • Keep the major focus on DBMS (especially JOINS and VIEWS). You can practice DBMS on GeeksForGeeks.

Round 5(HR Interview): In this, the interviewer asked me to introduce myself, verified the details I’ve provided, then asked some questions like

  • About Sopra Banking?
  • Why Sopra Banking?
  • Some more general HR questions, etc.

That interview lasted for around 20-25 minutes. It was a sort of non-elimination round. So I cleared this round.

Result: I got selected
