The National Institute Of Technology, Silchar is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India. I am currently a third-year student at this college, and I have shared my views on my college.

Placement:

Firstly, let’s talk about placements as that’s what most people coming to this article would be interested in.

Placement Statistics 2022-2023

The above figure gives a clear idea of the placement statistics, thus I shall move to the next points.

Infrastructure:

The new buildings have good infrastructure however, most of the infrastructure is outdated as NIT Silchar is an old institute established in 1967.

The campus boasts a variety of establishments catering to your everyday requirements. There’s a Fair Price Shop (where you essentially can buy every daily requirement, but the price is not fair, but from a business point of view, it’s fair as they provide convenience. In addition to this, there’s an SBI bank, two ATMs, a post office, a cafe named NITs Cafe, and a fruit shop conveniently located within the campus premises. Moreover, each hostel is equipped with its canteen, ensuring easy access to meals for residents.

Ranking:

NIT Silchar was ranked 40th among all engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2023 and is ranked as the 8th best NIT amongst the 31 NITs across the country. The Times Higher Education World University Ranking ranked National Institute of Technology Silchar 600-800 in 2023 rankings.

College fests:

There are mainly two big fests: Technosis (which is the technical fest) and Incandescent (which is a cultural fest). There are some other fests like Posua, which is organized by the Assamese community, and Oikyotan, which is organised by the Bengali community. You get to experience other cultures during these fests.

Hostel:

The hostel facilities face challenges due to increased student intake. This resulted in the conversion of two-seater rooms into three-seater accommodations, leading to inconvenience. The situation is worse for girls as half of them are made to live in four-seater rooms, which are quite small. The food quality in the hostels varies, but generally, it’s not very good. Specifically, the food in the girls’ hostel is worse compared to the boys’ hostel.

Faculty:

The teachers are highly qualified and knowledgeable, but their teaching methods could be improved. However, they are extremely helpful in assisting the students with our academic challenges.

Clubs:

There are lots of clubs which include coding club, developer students’ club, machine learning club, have (dance club), E-cell( entrepreneurship club), Illuminits( literature society), objective (photography club), advay(drama club), NITSMUN (MUN society), Nits Eco Club etc. So whatever your hobby is, there’s a club for that.

Personal Likes:

  • Evening sky
  • Clean campus
  • Singers like Mohit Chauhan and Monali Thakur performed in fests.
  • Good Senior-junior relationship

Personal Dislikes:

  • Unpredictable weather.
  • 70% of the instruments in labs do not work properly.
  • Transportation facilities are bad.
  • Outside campus, the town is not clean. There aren’t places to hang out with friends except a few restaurants.
