Initiation:

When I entered my college campus which is Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology for the first time it was altogether an exciting and life-changing moment for me. Like other freshers, it was the start of a new phase in my life, one that is brimming with the opportunity to polish my skills and develop my personality, being independent for the first time in my life by living away from my family and taking some decisions about myself on my own, and hopes well to seize all the beautiful moments which would come in everyday life. First-year university experiences laid the foundation for future academic and personal growth, from finding unfamiliar/challenging situations to making new friends. Let’s take a look back at the thrilling experience I had on my very first campus experience and discover the valuable lessons it taught me.

A place which turned from alien to comfort:

Freshers were welcomed by a diverse and active community of fellow students, teachers, and staff as soon as they set foot on the bustling campus grounds after we had a week-long induction program which consisted of a speech from the director of the college and some HODs followed up by some entertaining dance and singing performances which also allowed us to showcase our skills called “Talent Hunt” which could be anything whether it be in singing, dancing, comedy, acting, etc. As freshers were trying to adapt to this new environment, the early days were frequently a mixture of joy and apprehension. Making friends and finding a sense of belongingness in this environment slowly and steadily changing into a comfort zone from an alien environment is greatly helped by meeting with unknown students some of which later became good friends, joining clubs and organizations, and going to social events. I learned the value of my circle which I frequently interacted with from my first campus experience, which also helped me form friendships that will last long after I graduate from college.

Academic Scene :

After leaving behind the regimented environment of high school, the college offered a new level of intellectual independence. I was introduced to a variety of classes, professors, and academic subjects during my first time in school. I was able to grow personally and discover myself thanks to the freedom given to each student to choose his/her courses after 1st year where each branch has the same courses and courses were all computer science related with specialization which was my area of interest due to which I joined this college as I was able to pursue and investigate my interest from the 1st year itself. During this time, I learned how to manage time properly thus teaching me to be disciplined and punctual, and keeping a balance between studying the courses and having fun became crucial. I made an effort to teach them to take charge of their education through trial and error, laying the groundwork for future academic achievement.

Cultural and Intellectual Exposure:

College campuses resembled a blend of various cultures, religions, thoughts, and viewpoints. The first time I visited my college, I was presented with a world of intellectual stimulation and exposure to different thoughts. My point of view got expanded and my ability for critical thinking was increased by attending lectures, taking part in discussions, and participating in extracurricular activities. Compassion, understanding, and respect were developed by conversing and interacting with my classmates from different racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I gathered a global point of view as a result of this display, which equipped me for personal development and making a meaningful contribution to society.

Persisting Values :

After my academic sphere would be over, I would ponder upon my first campus’s persisting values which confronted me and taught me indispensable life skills that I will take with me after I graduate. Some precious soft skills which I inculcated into me during the whole time I am on my college campus consisted of time management, interpersonal skills, problem-solving techniques, and networking with like-minded individuals who aim for similar goals in their lives. The whole campus experience setting served as a safe haven for experimentation, self-reflection, and development as an individual.

Closure:

My first time on campus was a roller-coaster full of ups and downs, challenges and happiness, and a life-changing journey that assisted me to become a self-confident, self-reliant adult. My college gave me a platform to expand me academically and personally, uplift my independent skills in decision-making, and prepare me for the difficulties I would be face in my upcoming life. The first college experience left an unforgettable blemish on my mind and heart, from the beloved memories created with my friends who were random at some point in my life to the intellectual curiosity sparked in lecture halls and hostel rooms. It was an experience that helped me to begin planning for a lifetime of learning and self-improvement skills.
