IIIT Hyderabad Admission Experience For M.Tech

PGEE is an exam for master’s degree admission at IIIT Hyderabad. IIIT Hyderabad offers master’s degree admission i.e. M.Tech in two fields one is CSE and the other is CSIS. CSIS course includes subjects based on information security.

In the M.Tech program, we have to complete 64 credits out of which they have fixed 18 credits fixed course first semester which includes subjects: Data structure, Advanced operating system, Probability, Linear Algebra, and Software system development. From 2nd semester onwards we have to select courses on our own which can also include independent study or project work.

Choices of subjects are so diverse that we can explore whatever subject we want to learn. In my case, I want to explore machine learning so I took courses around that only.

Earlier they used to have interviews for the selection of students but now only an exam with some cutoff is required for admission.

The exam is known as PGEE. It consists of Aptitude and computer fundamentals. The syllabus is the same as GATE only. There was a section-wise cut-off. While applying you have to fill in your course preferences. After the results come out they will offer you the course (CSE or CSIS) based on performance and your priority.

Talking about the college experience and academics , first semester we have dedicated subjects basically extension of Gate subjects like Advanced Data structure, Advanced Operating system, Software system development etc. The course work is assignment and project heavy with the dedicated deadline.

From second semester onwards we have to choose our own subjects according to curriculum matrix of completing subjects of particular category in order to complete credits, good choice if you are keen to learn machine learning this semester its a good chance with intro subjects to ML.

Currently I am in third semester but yes its good to be here to struggle which comes with lot of learning everyday.

It’s a great experience to be a student of IIIT Hyderabad, Academics and culture are very well acquainted.
