How to Record Screen using Microsoft PowerPoint?

What is Screen Recording in MS Powerpoint?

Microsoft PowerPoint has a special feature called screen recording where you can record your computer screen and insert it into your presentation. Basically screen recording is a technique of capturing screen or video, recording in a window or in full-screen modes. PowerPoint makes it easy to explain something you’ve seen on your display. It enables you to add voice-over narration, pointer arrow, audio, and many more.

You can record your computer screen with audio, and then embed it in your PowerPoint slide or you can also save it in a separate file. 

Steps to Record Screen in MS Powerpoint

Step 1: On the navigation menu bar click on the Insert option.

Step 2: On the right-hand side of the navigation menu bar select the Screen Recording option as shown in the figure:

Step 3: A control panel will be open where you can control the video recording functions.



Step 4: On the Control panel, click on the select the area option (Windows logo key + Shift + A), or, if you want to select the entire screen for recording, press Windows logo key + Shift + F.

Note: The minimum size area you can record is 64×64 pixels.

Step 5: If you have opted to select an area, you see the cross-haired cursor (+). Click and drag to select the area of the screen you want to record as shown in the figure:

Tip: PowerPoint automatically records the audio and the mouse pointer, so by default those options are selected on the control dock. To turn them off, deselect Audio (Windows logo key + Shift + U) and Record Pointer (Windows logo key + Shift + O).

Step 6: If you want to record the cursor movement also then click on the Record Pointer as shown in the figure:

Step 7: Next if you want to record audio then click on the Audio option.



Step 8: Next click on the Record option to start recording.

Screen Recording is started.

Step 9: To STOP the recording press the (Window logo key + shift + Q) or you can also select the square box option to stop the recording as shown in the figure:

Step 10: To PAUSE the recording click on the top of the screen and select the pause option as shown in the figure:

Some shortcuts to control the recording are:

  • Click Pause to temporarily stop the recording (Windows logo key + Shift + R)
  • Click Record to resume recording (Windows logo key + Shift + R)
  • Click Stop to end your recording (Windows logo key + Shift + Q)

Finally, the screen recording is added on the slide as shown in the figure:



Save Your Screen Recording in a Separate File

Step 1: To save the screen recording Right-click on the recording and then select the save as media option as shown in the figure:

Step 2: A save as media dialog box will open.

Step 3: Next select the drive from the left panel menu and then enter the file name to save the screen recording.

Step 4: Click on the SAVE option.

Finally, your screen recording is saved.

How to Edit the Video?

Step 1: To resize the size of the video drag the highlighted button as shown in the figure:

Step 2: On the navigation menu bar click on the Format option.

Step 3: Click on the drop-down arrow menu button to expand the video styles option.

Step 4: Now select the video styles format from the style menu of your choice.

Finally, your video is ready for the presentation.
