Everyone has heard about Goldman Sachs Company and I also was one of those students who aspire to join Goldman Sachs and wants to experience a very luxurious life with a great package and great work-life balance

So, It’s all started around mid-November, 2022 when I applied for the Goldman Sachs Summer Analyst Program. My resume was not so good just average. My skills were also not up to the mark just C++ with intermediate DSA and some concepts of OOPS and DBMS.

My resume got selected and I received an Email on 6th December that I am selected for

Round 1: Which is Aptitude Round was scheduled on 11 December 2022.

I was not so surprised just went with the flow, and revised my Aptitude topics.

I am sure any other candidate wasn’t as relaxed as me because Goldman Sachs’ Aptitude Test is not that easy. It has very high-level Aptitude questions which go like this:

  • Total Number of questions: 66
  • Total time allotted: 90 minutes overall ( not section based)

The 66 questions are divided into 6 sections which are :

  • Numerical Computation: 8 questions
  • Numerical Reasoning: 12 questions
  • Abstract Reasoning: 12 questions
  • Logical Reasoning: 12 questions
  • Diagrammatic Reasoning: 12 questions
  • Verbal: 10 questions

The Round 1 went well for me. I was pretty confident that I am going to make it to Round 2.

As expected I got an Email on 20 December that I am selected for round 2

Round 2: This was Technical Round.

But this time there was something different. There was not any technical round right away after the Aptitude Round but before that, there was a GS learning round. In this, they gave us around 6 courses on Coursera that we need to complete and learn some skills. It was around for 1 month period. So I started revising my DSA with Coursera and some basic computer fundamentals. There were also some machine learning modules in the course which I didn’t touch as it was not my forte.

After that around 8 January 2023, I received mail about the technical round which would be scheduled on 19th of February 2023.

This time I was nervous, very nervous. I started revising DSA and practiced leetcode and GFG and computer fundamentals.

Then 19th Feb came, the test started.

I started doing MCQs first,

There were around 20 questions:

  • 2 coding problems
  • 8 Advanced Quantitative Aptitude
  • 7 – 8 Computer Science fundamentals
  • 2 subjective questions (Situation Based )

My coding problems went very badly. As I was only able to submit coding questions partially; other sections went very well. One Subjective question went well, other went horrific; all and all I was sure that I am out because who will select me on the basis of just all the correct Quant and CS fundamentals and a good subjective question…

As I said who will but  Goldman Sachs Did!

Yes! On 23rd February I received this mail…saying.

Hi,

Congratulations on clearing the technical test!

We have come a long way from the aptitude test to coursework to the interviews and your journey so far has been applaudable.

To further help you upskill and prepare better for the interviews, we are conducting Mentoring Session with Goldman Sachs for you to connect with GS leaders and get familiarized with our interview process. “

After reading this I skipped a beat or two. I was like what just happened? I had lost hope and was continuing my normal life…College, Hostel, Mess, Sleep, College, Hostel, Mess, Sleep…

Now I was like only 5 days….my interview was scheduled on the 28th of Feb 2023.

I started revising DSA, computer fundamentals, and this time MY RESUME TOO.

I started revising DSA (Data Structures and Algorithms), computer fundamentals, and, this time, my resume too.

So, I prepared a script for my introduction and crammed it. Man, this was my very first interview at a company, and I was way too nervous. I took help from my sister to conduct mock interviews for me. She helped me a lot from the beginning, but yeah, I forgot to mention her. She helped me from the beginning…

So, on 28th February, I was ready with a white shirt, black tie, blue lower, and slippers. Yeah, it was an online interview.

I was sitting on a Zoom call and waiting for my turn. After some time, I was asked to join a breakout room. I went there, and the interviewer was waiting. It was a very horrific moment for me. He introduced himself and then asked me to introduce myself.

I read the script that I prepared one night ago, and it was like, well, okay types. But the main issue was when I am nervous, my English just commits suicide. So, it happened.

After that, he asked me if I am familiar with Python. Yeah, I am, but sir, my forte is C++, so. he asked me a question related to Valid Parentheses yes, I was familiar with this question, and I knew the code and everything. But the main issue was I couldn’t explain it well because I was nervous. It was my first interview, and I was directly sitting for Goldman Sachs.

After this question, he asked me about OOPs concepts like Abstraction, Polymorphism, etc. These were my strong points, so I answered them very well and confidently.

After that, he asked me to ask something I want to know. Yes, I also prepared a script for this question one day before, so I read it to him. and that’s it. He answered, and bye-bye, that was it.

Goldman Sachs takes 3 interviews to select candidates. First, they shortlist some students after the first interview, then more shortlisting, and then whoever clears the last interview gets an internship…

After the first interview, I was asked to join a breakout room. There were around 50 to 60 students there. We were all confused and left to wait for around an hour or more (I can’t remember).

After a long wait and an empty stomach, we were asked to leave the meeting and wait for further information. but each candidate in that room knew that that was it.No more interviews and the journey with Goldman ended there, just in a blink of an eye. I knew what my mistakes were, where I lagged behind, and what I need to do now. It was a great experience just being a candidate for their company. So, how great will it be to be a part of it?

So, I decided on that day that I will crack Goldman surely in the future and be a part of it.

Here was my experience from Day 1 to D-Day.
