Course Description:

The course I applied for at GIKI was BCS in the faculty of computer science and engineering—the program aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of computer science principles, focusing on the IT industry.

Why Giki You must say:

I had brilliant marks in F.Sc Pre-Engr and with that kind of marks, my aim was to be in NUST, the #1 in Pakistan. But unfortunately, I did not get admission in my desired field or I did not get admission into CS or SE programs. I never in my entire life thought of going to GIKI as it is only for the elite, rich kids with millionaire backgrounds. But I gave it a shot. GIK has been ranked number one in Pakistan in its World University Impact Rankings 2021.

Exams and Interviews:

I appeared for the Online Aptitude Test (oAT) as part of the admission process. It was conducted online on 29th July.

  • It required screen sharing with the invigilator and a quiet background in a closed room corner.
  • The first part was English. It was very much similar to SAT English writing part where they check your vocabulary, grammar, problem understanding and punctuation.
  • The second part was physics. And man it was tough! It was entirely based on your knowledge on applied physics and some topics from F.Sc Part 2 Physics. If you study A-levels physics you are good to go.
  • The third part was mathematics. It was the easiest part for me as i practiced a lot. If you practice enough of KPK board and Punjabboard text books you can clear it easily.
  • There was no interview for the admission.

Admission Criteria and Process:

For admission to the CS program at GIKI, the institute considered several factors:

  • F.SC Part 1 percentile: I had a 94.02 percentile in F.Sc Part 1, which was a significant component of the selection process.
  • Academic Background: I had a F.Sc pre-engineering background.
  • OAT Marks: GIKI do not disclose there admission test’s marks but they do announce the merit list.
  • Merit List Position: My merit list position was 178, showing i didn’t do very good in OAT.
  • Academic Performance: My academic scores were Matric- 96%, 12th – 93.7.0%.

Scholarship Interview Experience:

The interviewers started by discussing a mix-up where I was mistakenly called instead of another candidate.

They inquired about my father’s occupation, salary and who deserves this scholarship. The interviewers questioned the exceptional marks in previous degree and inquired whether i shall get over-confident and fall or not . The main purpose of the interview was to let you believe that you don’t deserve this scholarship. But I stood with my stance and imposed why i need this scholarship. The interviewers then became friendly and asked about my thoughts on future. And how i can contribute to the university’s betterment.

Outcome:

Just 1 day before the on-campus joining, i received my scholarship letter and i went to a college no one in my family or even i never imagined of going.
