Geeks For Geeks (or GFG) always keeps learners and their requirements in focus. In the same context, the website https://www.geeksforgeeks.org provides “Remote Technical Content Writer Internships” through its article writing portal. I find myself fortunate to discover this opportunity at the mid of year 2023 and then successfully complete a three months internship at the same position by the end of the same year. In this article, I intend to share my experience of the internship so that others can discover about its various aspects.

Motivation for Content Writing Internship at GFG

Geeks for Geeks is a well established computer science portal with a wide readership. If one searches for common computer science topics, GFG articles generally appear in top search results. This fact has two benefits –

  1. Social Benefit: Your content on GFG has potential for a wider impact. Letting you serve large number of learners worldwide.
  2. Personal Benefit: Your internship holds a high value as you generally don’t have to explain the concerned people about GeeksForGeeks as a company and hence your internship.

Eligibility

The eligibility to apply for the internship is that the applicant has at least one article or improvement published on the portal before applying.

When I tried for the first time, my article got discarded by the reviewer. I tried again with an improvement about 2 months later. This time it got published, and I became eligible to apply for the internship.

The Internship Application Process

The application process is automated from company (GFG) side. In fact, almost all of “write portal” is automated from company side except for the review, remuneration and feedback response process (as far as I understand). It makes it simple and quick to work with. As soon as you become eligible, the facility to apply for internship/freelancing becomes enabled. To apply for internship –

  1. Go to the Geeks For Geeks Article Writing Portal > Work with us tab and apply for internship.
  2. Select employment type as “internship” and then select duration (3/6/12 months).
  3. Fill in the required credentials to complete the application process.

It is recommended to read the up-to-date internship guidelines available before application part while applying.

Once the process is complete, you will be able to download your “Offer Letter” immediately. You also get into a contract which lets you get paid for your published articles in case you apply for remuneration (Refer to Remuneration-Guidelines for the same) during your internship period. You can also view the employment details and various related options in the “Work with us” tab.

The Internship Period

During the internship period, you have to contribute articles and/or improvements through the write portal. Refer to “GFG Article Writing Guidelines” if you want more details on that. It is the same as the standard content (article/improvement) contribution process on the site. There is no human communicating directly with you (except different reviewers through the review feedback). There is no-one you have to report to. Work with your own pace and comfort. Follow the writing guidelines, learn and explore the topics you pick or create, write and track the status of your posts on the write portal.

Personally, the experience was somewhat bitter for me due to long review periods, some of which took more than 4 weeks. The probable reason was the pressure on the review system due to large number of articles appearing due to “Geeks Premier League” contest being conducted in parallel at the time. Still, it feels great when you see your posts published.

Post Internship and Certificate

As soon as the internship duration is over, the system (automated) issues a certificate for the internship if you fulfill their internship-success criteria. During, my internship duration, the criteria was “minimum 10 published articles written and published during the internship duration”. As far as I know, currently it is “minimum 10 published articles or 50 improvements created and published during the internship duration”. (Please check the most up-to-date criteria available on the application portal if you wish to apply.)

Since I got more than 10 articles published during my internship duration, I was greeted with a nice certificate (in PDF). Also received an e-mail regarding the same after some hours. Overall, it was a worthy experience and all the contribution work reflects on my Geeks For Geeks profile too! The articles and the shiny contributor badges.
