Hey Folks,

Interview is the part of life that reflects your personality. It’s an opportunity to showcase your skills, learn from industry experts, and potentially embark on a new chapter in your professional life.

I would like to share my experience with you all that landed me as an SDE intern at Caterpillar.

My interview lasts around 1hr. The very first thing that you should have is your updated resume or CV (a photo is not necessary). Around 80 per cent of questions will be based on your resume. The most important part is not to fake achievements. Mention what you know in your resume.

Once you enter the interview room, just greet the interviewees with a smile on your face. Don’t sit until they ask you to sit. Always carry a folder, that includes your certificates, resume etc. If the interviewer asks for your resume, take it out from the folder and then give it to them. Make sure you have multiple copies of your resume so that if multiple interviews are there then they can read it all together.

The very first question is ”Tell me something about yourself”. Take note that it’s asking about yourself so do not include your family details. You should follow the chronological order of your education. Start from your full name then go to schooling, graduation. Likewise, if you have any skills then mention them, hobbies should be considered at last. Speak slowly and confidently because the first impression is the last impression.

Next are the technical questions that they will be asking. Like what projects you did, what is the significance of that project, how you did it? The answer to these questions will be based on your domain and projects. But one thing I can share is, to explain them simply and crisply. You should remember all projects you did including the title of the project.

Even writing code is also common, for me, they asked me to write Python code because I did most of my projects in Python. You will be asked, “Which language are comfortable with”. Based on that also they will ask some theoretical questions. You should answer this if you know any language from basic to advanced (you should be able to explain the logic).

Next will be critical thinking questions which they will be asking. It can be Why do you want to join our company? Why should we hire you? What makes you better than others? They just want to see how peacefully you tackle all these questions.

After completing all these phases, the very last question is “Would you like to ask anything from us/me”. If you are going to attend an interview, then do some research about the company, founder name, current projects, market cap, investors and partners etc. To answer it, all these must be known. This shows that you want to join the company and you are keen to know more about it. I have asked them about their recent expansion which is going on and what challenges they faced during the expansion.

With this, my interview was over and I got news after some time that I would be joining them as an SDE intern.

I hope I was able to mention the points which you will consider for your interview preparation. Never lose hope and best of luck for future endeavours.
