Multinational mobility major Uber has announced that its users in the United Kingdom (UK) will be able to avail more services on the app than just booking cabs. The company has said that the upcoming services will let users book intercity train, coach, bus, and plane tickets using the app.

The company is rolling out the new services as it aspires to make the Uber App a one-stop platform for all travel-related services. Currently, the option of booking train, plane, and bus tickets will be available to the users in the UK only as it is launched as a pilot project.

Jamie Heywood, Regional General Manager, UK – Northern and Eastern Europe, Uber, said,

Everyone values the freedom to make travel arrangements in a simple and convenient way, which is why we’re excited to become a one-stop-shop for all your travel needs.

He furthermore added, “You have been able to book rides, bikes, boat services, and scooters on the Uber app for a number of years, so adding trains and coaches is a natural progression. Later this year we plan to incorporate flights, and in the future hotels, by integrating leading partners into the Uber app to create a seamless door-to-door travel experience.”

The ride-hailing app has been providing cab services on its own. However, it will not provide the newly mentioned services in the same manner and is expected to partner with third-party agencies in order to do so. Though, the plans for collaborations or partnerships haven’t been revealed as well. It had clarified that it will not be providing the services but rather will make the option available on the Uber App for users to book the services through its partners.

In the coming months, Uber will confirm the various partners that will include national rail and coach companies, as well as car rental and flight services, enabling users to plan their travels with ease,

said the company in a statement.

Although, the company has stated that initially, the new services will be available to the users in the UK as a tester. But, it has not mentioned the names of other countries that will be included going further. Earlier, Dara Khosrowshahi who is the CEO of Uber, during a TechCrunch Disrupt had mentioned that he wish to see Uber become the Amazon of transportation rather than sticking to cab booking services.

Currently, the Uber app provides information regarding public transport for users in the UK. The service came into force in the year 2019.
