Shape construction is a methodical process in which a desired object is outlined on paper or drawn to demonstrate the precise illustration and measurement of the object to offer the object’s form. It is a type of non-verbal reasoning problem that involves using geometric shapes and logic to create complex forms. For example, you may be asked to construct a square, a triangle, or a hexagon by joining three pieces out of the five pieces given in the question. You can witness a couple of shape construction questions every in the SSC CGL examination.

How to solve shape construction questions?

To solve shape construction reasoning questions, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Imagine the shape which you have to construct, as it is mentioned in the question, it could be a rectangle, square, hexagon, or any other polygon.
  2. Carefully examine all the pieces and look for hints that you can fit them together to get the desired shape. For example, match the sides, and angles, and look for symmetries, and curves.
  3. Now in your mind try to arrange these pieces in such a manner without leaving any spaces or overlapping so that you get the appropriate shape.
  4. Check your answer with the options provided in the question.

Shape Constructions: Questions and Answers

We will provide you with detailed answers to several important questions related to shape construction to enhance your comprehension of the concept.

General Instruction: Each question contains a group of five alternative figures labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, followed by four alternatives (A), (B), (C), and (D). The objective is to choose the alternative that displays three out of the five figures which, when arranged together, create a perfect shape that is mentioned in each question.

Questions 1. Select the alternative group which will make a perfect square.

A. 1,4,5

B. 2,3,5

C. 1,2,3

D. 2,3,4

Solution:

Option 1,2,3 Makes a perfect square.

A square has 4 equal side and all the angles are 90 Degree. By matching the edges and the angle of 1-2-3 shape we can clearly construct square.

Questions 2.  Select the alternative group which will make a perfect square.

A. 1,2,3

B. 1,2,4

C. 1,2,5

D. 2,3,5

Solution:

Option 1,2,5 Makes a perfect square.

A square has 4 equal sides and all the angles are 90 Degree. Try to make all the sides equal and all the angles 90.

This question requires little imagination. By matching the edges and the adding the angle of 1-2-5 shape we can clearly construct square.

Question 3: Select the alternative group that will make a perfect square.

A. 1,2,3

B. 1,2,4

C. 1,3,5

D. 2,3,5

Solution:

Option 1,3,5 Makes a perfect square.

To construct a square, you need 4 equal sides and 4, 90 Degree angles. By matching the edges of 1-3-5 shape we can clearly construct sqaure.

Question 4: Select the alternative group which will make a perfect triangular prism.

 Solution:

A. 1

B. 2

C. 3

D. 4

Solution:

Option 3 is the correct answer.

Perfect triangular prisms have a total of 4 faces and all the faces are of triangular in shape, try to fold the figure, without overlapping or leaving any gaps.

Question 5: Select the alternatives group which will make a perfect rectangle.

A. 1,2,3
B. 4,2,1
C. 2,3,4
D. None of these

Solution:

Firstly, remind the properties of a rectangle. It has 4 angles of 90 Degree each, and opposite sides are of equal length.

Now, try to construct the rectangle from the available options.

Combining option 4,2,1, we can make the perfect rectangle.

Question 6.  Select the alternative group which will make a perfect square.

A.1,2,4

B. 2,3,4

C. 1,3,4

D. 1,2,5

 Solution:

All you need to stick to the property of a square, 4 Sides and 4, 90 Degree angles.

1,2,5 makes the perfect square.

Question 7. Choose a figure from the four options that fit exactly into Figure X to form a complete square.

Options:

A. 1

B. 2

C. 3

D. 4

Solution: Option 2 is correct.

Question 8. Choose a figure from the four options that fit exactly into Figure X to form a complete square.

Option:

A. 1

B. 2

C. 3

D. 4

Solution:

Try to fit , 1-2-3-4 figure in figure X to make a complete square.

Only Option B fits perfectly.

Question 9. Choose a figure from the four options that fit exactly form a complete triangle.

Options

A. 2, 4, 5
B.1, 3, 4
C.1, 3, 5
D. 3, 4, 5

Solution:

As we know, the triangle has 3 sides, and after examining it carefully, only 3,4,5 make the complete triangle.

Question 10. Choose a figure from the four options that exactly form a complete hexagon.

A. 1, 2, 4
B. 2, 3, 4
C. 1, 2, 4
D. All figures

Solution:

D, Hexagon is a 2-D polygon which has 6 sides. Arrange the figures to make an enclosed 6-sided polygon.
